The University of Vermont (UVM) has a diverse range of club offerings for students including sports, media, and political activism. But did you know that UVM also offers a ton of food-related clubs for you to get involved in? Here’s a short list of popular UVM food-related orgs for you to dig into!
UVM FeelGood
Do you love the smell of a freshly cooked grilled cheese sammie? If so, check out FeelGood! They’re located adjacent to the Davis Center tunnel and serve grilled cheese sandwiches Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 3pm. The profits raised from sales go to the 2030 Commitment Fund: a collaboration of organizations aimed at ending world hunger. FeelGood can also be spotted at campus events, or making some sandwiches for late night dorm deliveries. Food Recovery Network at UVM (FRN at UVM)
Although older UVM students might recognize FRN at UVM by their old organization’s name, The Food Recovery Network, this student org is still servin’ up the same mission. They host weekly brunches at Feeding Chittenden, a non-profit food shelf in Burlington, and move uneaten food from UVM’s dining halls to the food shelf where it is distributed to those in need. Every spring, FRN at UVM hosts the “Battle of the Campus Chefs,” a fun-draiser to help them collect supplies for their community breakfasts. Spoon University-Vermont
[Not so] arguably the coolest student-organization on campus! At Spoon University-Vermont, our goal is to publish meaningful, food-related digital content for the UVM community and beyond. We also strive to build connection to one another based in a shared love of food & cooking- whether it be sharing recipes for publication or hosting food-related philanthropic events on campus. Our chapter also offers opportunities for contributors to develop their professional writing, marketing, photography, and communication skills. Never forks!
Vermont Challah for Hunger (CHF)
UVM’s CHF is one of seventy nationally-affiliated chapters of this non-profit. Their goal is to bake & sell challah rolls weekly to raise money for Hunger Free Vermont and MAZON: A Jewish Response for Hunger. CHF and UVM Hillel also host events for both Jewish-identifying and non-Jewish identifying students to come together based on a shared interest in social justice volunteerism. SlowFood UVM
If you love the simplicity and warmth of a home-cooked meal, SlowFood may be the perfect club for you! This organization works to raise awareness about the socially and environmentally destructive practices of the modern industrial food system. Besides hosting usual screenings of food justice films in at Brennan’s, SlowFood also regularly cooks together and builds a strong sense of food-related identity among students.
Green Mountain Veggies (GMV)
GMV is UVM’s vegan and vegetarian club! Along with advocating and providing resources for sustainable plant-based lifestyles for students, they also do outreach work in the greater Burlington area. You can find them cooking up a storm of vegan goodies in the UHeights South kitchen or selling plant-based snacks in the Davis Center.
