From fried chicken sandwiches to frosted sugar cookies, Mother Road Market is open and ready for business. Tulsa’s first ever food hall not only offers a wide variety of delicious food, but also nostalgia at its very own general store and beautiful arrangements in a quaint floral shop.
This is a great place to come with friends or family because the options are unlimited!
Every Wednesday they have “Flight Night”. Now, don’t get this confused with beer. At Mother Road Market, “Flight Night” is when each vendor has a $3 menu item.
Mother Road Market also plans on hosting numerous community events from yoga to live music. Not to mention, there’s a Route 66 themed putt-putt course located in the coolest outdoor seating area I’ve ever seen in Tulsa! And the best part: it’s located 5 minutes away from campus on the corner of 11th Street and Lewis Avenue.
I had the opportunity to sit down with Ashley Van Horne, the chief communications officer for the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation, and ask her a few questions about the creation of Mother Road Market. Here’s what she said:
How did the idea of Mother Road Market come about?
We started Kitchen 66 in 2016, which is a program that gives food entrepreneurs an affordable access to kitchen to space, mentorship, and sales/distribution opportunities. When Kitchen 66 took off, we started looking for other ways to help food entrepreneurs in the community. Mother Road Market gives food entrepreneurs an affordable place to test out their concepts and see if it’s popular.
Why did you pick this specific location?
Route 66 and it’s history is important to the Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation. We hope that Mother Road Market is a catalyst for other developments in the area.
How did you entice local restaurants and people to set up shop in Mother Road Market?
We had a great response from the restaurant community when we unveiled our idea. We have established restaurants like Andolini’s and Oklahoma Joe’s BBQ and restaurants where this is their first brick and mortar store. The community between business owners has already been so strong.
What are some things you’re excited that Mother Road Market offers?
I’m excited that we can accommodate so many different dietary restrictions. You can bring a group of people here and no matter what you’re into at the moment, you’ll be able to find something here. I’m also excited about the programming, different community events like live music, yoga, cooking classes, and movie nights. As a non-profit it’s important to us to create a space for the Tulsa community.
What does the future of Mother Road Market look like to you?
We’re very optimistic about the future. Success to us is creating a space where no matter your age, race, socioeconomic status, there is something that speaks to you. We also want to help businesses grow and succeed.
How do you think this will effect the community?
Tulsa as a city has so much momentum right now and we want to be a corner stone in the vision of where Tulsa is headed. You can come to Mother Road Market and order something for lunch, have a drink at the bar, shop for a birthday gift for a friend, and grab some groceries at the farmers market.
