If you’re from the Tampa Bay area, Datz is one of those restaurants you go to for breakfast, lunch…or even Sunday brunch. I love how creative their menu is and the different food items I can choose from. When the Wonder Woman movie came out earlier this year, I conquered their Amazon Warrior burger. There isn’t ever a time the words “Let’s go to Datz” don’t come out of my mouth.
Ahead of the Curve
What began as a modest idea of a local restaurant for everyone is extending the invitation to Downtown St. Petersburg. Yelp’s most reviewed business in Tampa Bay is bringing their iconic brand to Central Ave. Datz is joining The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art when it opens in Spring 2018.
“We are so excited to bring Datz to St. Petersburg!,” says Suzanne Perry, owner of Datz along with her husband Roger. “It’s causing some real excitement amongst those in the know, and rightfully so. We think we’re a great match with a booming city that loves art, originality and edgy cuisine.”
Leave it up to Datz to stay ahead of the trends and consistently coming up with new and exciting ideas. I’m always amazed the wheels are still spinning there and they’re still excited to surprise their guests. Think about it…where else can you get a donut cheeseburger that looks so beautiful.
On Everyone’s Radar
Datz is a regular on the national foodie radar. They’ve been featured in USA Today, Travel Channel, Cooking Channel, Food Network, FYI, and Good Morning America. In 2012, the Perrys formed the Datz Restaurant Group(DRG) and opened it’s second concept Dough, a from-scratch bakery focused on the most whimsical and over-the-top treats you’ve ever seen in your life, right next door. Last year they came up with several variations of a doughnut ice cream cone that were heavenly. The quirkiness and uniqueness of Dough has gotten it featured on the baking competition show Donut Showdown and Food & Wine. DRG’s third concept Roux, which features a southern twist on traditional Creole and Cajun dishes, is named one of Tampa Bay’s Top 50 Restaurants by Tampa Bay Times consistently.
DRG recently announced a new partnership with BBQ Hall of Famer and Food Network personality Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe. It’s fourth concept named “Dr. BBQs” is scheduled to open in the thriving Edge District of St. Petersburg in the near future. I have a feeling it’s going to be really popular next Summer.
I’m hella excited to see a familiar face in St. Petersburg. I don’t know about you but I plan on being first in line when they open this Spring. Wanna come with?
