What Holiday Treat You Should Eat According to Your Favorite Holiday Movie

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UNH chapter.

Holiday season is back! My favorite time of year, and I’m hoping yours as well. There’s so much to look forward to; spending time with friends and family, the holiday spirit, and of course the decadent treats. In my family, there’s a new fresh holiday treat out on my kitchen counter every other day throughout the month of December. There’s nothing better than filling up a plate of your favorite treat and chowing down as you watch a holiday classic. Not matter where you’re from, whether you’re wrapping yourself in cozy blankets or turning up the AC, the joy of the holidays is a time of celebration, cheer, and cookies.

So simple to make, only 3-ingredients necessary. Invite your friends over and they will think you have slaved over hours making this fancy af chocolate peppermint bark. Watch Scrooge

Polar ExpressHomemade Hot Chocolate

The hot chocolate most likely won’t be served to you to song and dance like on the Polar Express (unless you bribe your mom too). This movie is my all time favorite holiday movie and with a creamy cup of homemade hot chocolate, it puts me right in the holiday mood.

#SpoonTip: Top it off with whipped cream, marshmallows, and a candy cane

ElfBuddy the Elf Cookies

Heard about Buddy the Elf’s famous candy breakfast spaghetti? Would you try it? Yeah, I wouldn’t either. That’s why there’s an actual edible and delicious cookie version. Only 5 ingredients and no bake, what could be easier!

It’s a Wonderful LifeGingerbread Cookies

A dear old black-and-white classic with complicated story should be paired with a complex and tradition treat, gingerbread cookies. Love the cookies, hate the work it takes to make them, but so worth it especially around the holidays. Decorate them with friends and family to make it a fun gathering.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas Spritz Cookies

It’s a mother-daughter tradition in my household. These Christmas cookies are a staple-piece to almost every holiday home. Probably the most popular Christmas cookie out there, these are so fun to make with the cookie dough press and will melt in your mouth while you’re enjoying Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

A Charlie Brown ChristmasPeanut Butter and Chocolate Kiss Cookies

Not a movie, but a timeless TV show. Charlie Brown and the gang try to find the true meaning of Christmas. Peanut butter fingerprint cookies are another classic holiday cookie recipe that you’ll have to fight your siblings over the last one.

A Christmas StorySnickerdoodles

Snickerdoodles is a easy recipe to follow, but hard to get the pristine cinnamon-vanilla balance. Chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside, old-fashioned snickerdoodles and watch A Christmas Story. Don’t worry, you wont shoot your eye out white making this recipe.

Home AloneHazelnut Chocolate Biscotti

You’ll forget that your family left you behind on a vacation to Paris as you’re crunching on a hazelnut chocolate biscotti. Home Alone is a hilarious 90’s favorite. It’s ridiculously outrageous and so are these ridiculously cookies.

#SpoonTip: Dip your biscotti in hot chocolate or coffee!

National Lampoon’s Christmas VacationMuddy Buddies

Muddy buddies, puppy chow, or whatever you may call these, it is definitely know as Christmas Crack. So addicting! Watch is as you cry-laugh at the Lampoon’s and their ridiculous Christmas vacation. Just don’t stuff too much in your mouth, it could be a choking hazard as your laughing.

An American Tail – Matzah Bark

Hanukkah is not the main subject in the movie, but it’s a children cartoon based off of Jewish immigration. A different twist to chocolate bark

A Christmas CarolChocolate Yule Log Cake

First originated in France, the yule log is originally called the Buche de Noel. The classic chocolate pudding dessert is perfect for the classic A Christmas Carol. Lucky for you, you can chose the updated 2009-movie version, the 1951-version, or read the book.

Love ActuallyPeppermint Cupcakes

The story of 8 different couples during the holidays puts you in an emotional whirlwind. Eat one, or a few, of the peppermint cupcakes to keep your mind straight with so many plots packed into one movie.

People might call you a scrooge cause you sure don’t want to share the salted toffee brittle. Find a secret place to hide these cause they’ll be gone before you know it.

How the Grinch Stole ChristmasMint Chip Sugar Cookies

These minty sweets are far from nasty. Perfect for goodie-bags to hand out, which will put any grinch in the holiday spirit. Bake a huge batch cause these bad boys are going to be gone fast.

The Muppet Christmas CarolMini Caramel Apple Pie

Mini caramel apple pies that’s so easy and fun to make. Best served warm and crisp and pair with the Muppet’s movie for a childhood throwback.

#SpoonTip: serve with a dollop whip cream or a la mode.

I’m beyond excited that the holiday season is here. Don’t be alarmed if you see me skipping in the snow with a huge grin on my face, I’m paralyzed with the holiday spirit. Or I’m on a sugar-high from all the sweets I’ll be eating this month. Gather around the TV with your friends and family with your favorite plate of goodies. May your season be festive and the laughter be contagious!
