If you haven’t been to Maple Street Biscuit Co. yet, at the end of this article you’re going to want to get in your car and head to the closest location to you. Once I explain why Maple Street is the bees knees, we’ll get into the how the food is.
Right Here in Jax
Maple Street Biscuit Co. was born right here in Jacksonville, Florida, in late 2012. Their main values are: comfort food with a modern twist, immaculately clean stores, sustainable business and gracious service — all of which can be seen in all of their 20 locations. You can find Maple Street in four states! There are eleven here in Florida, five in Tennessee, two in Georgia, and two in South Carolina.
Maple Street Biscuit Co. isn’t a chain restaurant, instead they consider themselves to be a “community store” with “community leaders” who greet and welcome customers with a smile.
The menu has a variety of unique biscuit combinations, so there’s lots to choose from!
On top of the great food, great atmosphere and great customer service, Maple Street also calls your order in a very unique way, they use your answer to the question of the month. For example, when we went in the question of the month was “Who is your celebrity crush?” I said Chris Pine, obviously the best of the Chris’s, and when my order came up one of the workers yelled “Chris Pine.” You need to think quickly though, because once you see the sign with question out front you have until you get to where you place your order to think of an answer!
As If You Didn’t Want To Go Already
Maple Street Biscuit Co. made it all the way, they made it to Food Network. Maple Street was featured on Food Network’s Guilty Pleasure in 2016 — “Coast to Coast Indulgences” (season 2, episode 10 if you need to see it to believe it). Maple Street even has some behind the scenes photos here on their site.
More recently, as in February 20, 2018, Maple Street was placed at number 41 on Yelp’s “Top 100 Places to Eat for 2018.”
New And Exciting Things!
According to their site, Maple Street has some new and exciting things happening!
You can now order online from EVERY location — say what?! No need to wait in line for your biscuit needs, order it online and your food will be ready when you get there.
If you thought Maple Street couldn’t get any better, they are now serving salads — in jars! As of now, they offer three different salads: The Grazer, Summer Love and RBC. You can learn more about what each of these are here.
They’ve also got some new menu items that are only available at the Fleming Island location here in Florida. One of those delicious new meals is pictured below. The Sweet Grace — house-made chocolate chip waffles, topped with strawberries, house-made whipped cream, and powdered sugar.
And last but not least, they are opening three new locations — two more in Georgia and one more here in Florida!
Now that I’ve introduced you to the wonder that is Maple Street Biscuit Co., let’s talk about our visit.
Our Thoughts on Beach Blvd’s Location
We were greeted by the community leader of this location, Chelsea Sammons who made us feel very welcomed. She was very accommodating and even offer us some complementary dessert biscuits!
We decided to go over the weekend which turned out to be some of their busiest days, but we got our orders within a few minutes. The outdoor seating was very inviting so we decided to enjoy our biscuits outside.
Our Biscuit Breakdown
They stuff these biscuits to the max, so just to be safe grab a fork and knife as you grab your food.
Three of us here at Spoon UNF taste tested a few different foods — and two of the three of us had never been to Maple Street before, so our reviews won’t be too biased.
They have a handful of vegetarian and vegan options, so we tried the Iron Goat.
The Iron Goat was so full I needed a fork. They stuffed one of Maple Street’s signature biscuits with goat cheese and sautéed spinach. It’s a great blend of flavors and the biscuit is baked just right. It’s so good I started making it at home with an english muffin instead of a biscuit — still tasty but the biscuit would make it 10x better.
We also tried the Garden Bird and Squawking Goat — did I mention they have fantastic names for each of their biscuits?
The Garden Bird (the biscuit in the back of the photo above) was another hit. This biscuit is filled with fried chicken, an over easy egg, collard greens and some hot sauce to pull it together. The biscuit was super flaky but it wasn’t falling apart — it could definitely hold its own. The egg was great, and the hot sauce on top made it perfect. The collard greens were perfect, there was a ton but still very yummy. The chicken was fried to perfection, super crispy and a generous chunk.
The Squawking Goat (the biscuit in the front of the photo) had our mouths watering for a third time. This biscuit is filled with an all natural fried chicken breast, fried goat cheese medallion and house made pepper jelly. The biscuit was perfectly flaky and the fried goat cheese medallion was just right. Not too greasy and not covered in too much batter. There is a generous portion of crispy chicken inside the biscuit and the biscuit was drenched in delicious pepper jelly. Thankfully, it was didn’t get soggy and was still very flakey and delicious. Overall, it was a great flavor combination.
We also tried the cinnamon chip biscuits and chocolate chip cookie. Maple Street is the best of both worlds: breakfast food and dessert.
The cinnamon chip biscuits were super good and a really creative dessert idea. They also had pecans in them which makes them so much better. We highly recommend that you try them at least once.
Finally, we also got a salted chocolate chip cookie. That was spot on, one of the best we’ve had. It was full of chocolate chips, super gooey and the salt on top just made the chocolate even better.
Next Time
On our next trip to Maple Street Biscuit Co., we plan to try the BAM Yo Yo because of the cool name — and I guess it looks tasty too — and, hopefully, a mini blueberry basil pie. We saw them this trip but aren’t sure if they are always available, but homemade pie? How do you turn that down?
