While there are tons of different kinds of essential oils to choose from, only a few are known for having multiple benefits all on their own. One of these practically magic oils is peppermint oil.

Peppermint oil has a long history and has been used for medical purposes as far back as 1,000 BC. This essential oil is one of the oldest European oils, was used in Chinese and Japanese folk medicine and is mentioned in Greek mythological stories.

With such a long history, peppermint oil continues to prove its amazing benefits. Next time you find yourself trying to find a cure for these ten situations, use peppermint essential oil to help solve the problem.

1. Cure Headaches

Instead of popping a couple painkillers when you have a headache, simply apply peppermint oil to your forehead and temples. By doing this, the peppermint oil will seep into your skin and increase the circulation of blood and relax the strained muscles, which will help your headache disappear.

2. Relieve Sunburns

While we all love when the sun is high in the sky and we can feel its warmth on our skin, the ugly sunburn that often comes with can be a huge bummer. Peppermint oil can help reduce the pain that comes along with a sunburn’s ugly appearance.

For best results, mix peppermint oil with a small amount of coconut oil and apply it directly to the burned skin.

3. Relieve Allergies

Sneezing, red, watery eyes and sore throat? No, thanks. Peppermint oil can help tackle those pesky effects of allergies. The oil can relax the muscles in your nasal passages, which helps clear out the pollen and other floating debris that cause allergies.

To see noticeable results, it is recommended to diffuse peppermint oil.

4. Calm Skin Irritation

While many lotions claim that they can help reduce irritation on your skin, sometimes a simple solution, like adding peppermint oil into your body lotion, can do the trick.

To help reduce skin conditions, such as eczema, create a peppermint and lavender oil mixture and apply to the irritated surface.

5. Reduce Nausea

Make being nauseous a thing of the past by using peppermint oil. There are many ways to use peppermint oil to reduce nausea. Three easy ways are rubbing a couple of drops of the oil behind your ears, diffusing it and adding a drop of the oil into a bottle of water.

6. Promote Hair Growth

Waiting for your hair to grow can feel like a million year wait. No surprise, peppermint oil can help make that wait feel a bit shorter. Peppermint oil can help naturally thicken your hair while repairing damaged strands.

While many shampoos and conditioners already contain peppermint oil because of its noteworthy benefits, you can make your own peppermint oil enriched shampoo by simply adding some of the oil to your favorite shampoo.

7. Cure Acne

While many household products are known for curing acne, peppermint oil is one that you should especially take note of. Peppermint oil has anti-microbial properties so it makes a great natural acne treatment.

8. Increase Energy

Avoid the horrible crash that comes after a few hours of chugging a chemical-filled energy drink and sniff peppermint oil instead. Peppermint oil works as a natural energizer as it improves focus.

9. Reduce Hunger Cravings

While you should always listen your body and eat when your stomach growls indicating that you’re hungry, sometimes—like in the middle of class—eating is not allowed. Instead of interrupting your professor’s lecture by unwrapping a granola bar, inhale peppermint oil instead.

While a diffuser works best, deeply inhaling from the bottle a few times or placing a few drops of peppermint oil on your temples or chest will help you get by until you can eat freely.

10. Reduce Cavities

Not only will peppermint oil freshen your breath, scientists have found that peppermint oil reduces cavities more than many mouthwashes that claim to reduce cavities

Simply just place a drop of peppermint oil under your tongue and follow up with a glass of water to freshen your breath and decrease your chance of getting cavities.

While this is only ten benefits of using peppermint essential oil, there are many more. Instead of buying ten different products to cure all of these unwanted situations, buy one bottle of peppermint oil and watch your struggles disappear.
