An Athens Single’s Survival Guide to Valentines Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UGA chapter.

If you’re single, it is impossibly hard to decide how you should spend a day that’s dedicated to relationships. The truth is you don’t need to be in a relationship to have a good time on February 14th. All you need is food, drink, and fun stuff to keep you busy, and lucky you, because Athens has it all.

Here’s an Athens single’s sweet and simple guide, to making this Valentine’s Day go flawlessly.

Valentine’s Day festivities don’t commence at a certain hour, so stop by one of many Athens donut shops this week for some pink-and-red donuts with heart sprinkles. Try Ike and Jane for hand crafted donuts and pastries (and of course coffee).

Get Your Day Drink On at Creature Comforts🍻

If you’re over 21, Creature Comforts is the perfect place to casually day drink in jeans and a t-shirt. Grab some friends to sample a wide array of unique beers that are brewed in-house. You can also distract yourself from the “holiday” while learning how it’s all made on one of their tours.

Dance the Night Away to Flashbacks from the 90s💃🏻

Madonna doesn’t need a man to Vogue and neither do you. Instead of singing and dancing to Backstreet Boys alone in your room, head to 9ds Bar and dance the night away with your friends to the tunes of a time before.

Star in Your Own Indie Film📷

Athens Ciné is the perfect place for your indie self. It offers a variety of films, from well known features like La La Land to Sundance award-winning features and even foreign films. Make everyone jealous of your hipster self with pics in front of their picturesque backdrop that will make you feel as if your spending Valentines in Paris, which is trés bon.

Hello world! I've only just begun to meet you and I hope you grow to like me too. I take my first journey here as a freshmen at The University of Georgia, a place where I have met amazing little parts of this big world. As an aspiring journalist and self-proclaimed foodie, I have found that staying still get's you nowhere. Writing for Spoon University I aim to go somewhere and hopefully make a little more sense of it along the way. So here's to writing and eating, two things that couldn't be more perfect for each other. Never forks,Christiana Akinosho
