5 Ways To Use Peanut Butter Without Eating It

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UFL chapter.

Peanut butter goes with just about everything. You can put it in curry, on toast, with cookies and everything else in between. If you’re like me, your fridge looks depressing without it, and it’s a weekly staple, which is why I was amazed to find out that there are ways to use peanut butter without eating it.

So, here are five unconventional ways you can use peanut butter other than putting it in your mouth.

1. To Shave

The thought of this makes me cringe, but apparently all you do is use creamy peanut butter and lather the area you want to shave with a thin layer. Once you do that, you can then begin to shave.

This leaves your legs feeling very soft because peanut butter has oil in it, according to Lifehacker. I’m not sure if I would personally try this, but if you’re ever in a pinch and don’t have shaving cream, it’s worth a shot.

2. To Get Gum Out of Your Hair or Clothing

Out of the five things, I think this is the most useful one. We’ve all been there where, for some reason, the universe decides that on the busiest day of your week, you get gum on your favorite pair of shoes or in your hair. Our first instinct is to always tug and pull at the sticky mess, but next time you find yourself in this situation, look for peanut butter.

Apparently all you do is completely cover the area with gum in it completely with peanut butter, or oil, and then let it sit for a few minutes. The peanut butter, due to the oil in it, should make the gum stiff, and there you go, you now smell like a sandwich.

3. To Fix Scratched CD’s/DVD’s

I think this might be helpful if you’re one of those people who loves the idea of having a CD player and keeping old CD’s as memorabilia of your childhood, but all of your old CD’s are scratched. If this scenario sounds like one you’ve been in before, you’re in luck.

All you have to do is lightly rinse your CD and then dry it off. Once you’ve done that, add the peanut butter and then rinse it off. Apparently the stickiness of the peanut butter fills in the small details and makes the CD intact again.

4. To Remove Wax From Your Car

I probably wouldn’t do this with my car, but I’m sure one of your brave souls out there will. All you have to do is slather it on the area with old wax residue. The oil in the peanut butter is supposed to help break up the gunk. There are some concerns about how effectively this actually works, but to each their own.

5. To Get Rid of Lice

When I was growing up, everyone I knew who had lice swore by using mayonnaise in their hair to kill the little boogers. I’m guessing much like mayonnaise, peanut butter is a sticky and oily substance so it deters the lice from wanting to reproduce in your hair.

If I ruined the way you now look at peanut butter, I sincerely apologize because that wasn’t my intention at all. I hope you learned something new and maybe will one day be able to use peanut butter when you’re in a tough spot.
