6 Realistic Food Sketches By a 19-Year-Old That We Are Completely in Love With

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UDelhi chapter.

Sushant Rane, a 19-year-old living in Mumbai claims to be a self-taught artist. He draws hyper-realistic illustrations of everyday life objects – bulbs, spoons, scissors, coins and is currently a student of Bachelor of Arts at the Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai. He usually takes about a day to finish one illustration and what he draws is likely to make you fall out of your chair! Here are our six favourite illustrations by Sushant, and of course, they are related to food:

1. Cola Bar

Cola bars bring back memories for all of us. Remember not returning the change to mummy and saving it up to grab a Cola or an Orange Bar after school? Looks like Sushant has some memories with our lip-smacking cola bar too.

2. Sub Sandwich

A healthy option to eat out, Sub Sandwiches are a favourite for their variety and customization. This illustration just makes us all want to grab one, doesn’t it?

3. Soft Drinks

In this heat of summer, what better than a cold can of soft drink to beat the heat? Sushant’s illustrations remind us how to dispose of these properly, but are these for real?

4. Lays

An all-time favourite and easily available snack. Need we say more? Looks like Sushant was munching on a packet himself while drawing!

5. Eggs

We could use the broken egg for making an omelette, or just treat ourselves to the half fried. After all, eggs are our favourite breakfast item. Can we really eat these beautiful ones?

We just want to open this jar and dive right in for some divine indulgence. Wait a moment, can we really?

Sushant says that he uses Copic Markers and Graphite Pencils to draw these illustrations and sketches on a blank piece of paper. These are then photographed, the combined effect of which creates an optical illusion of sorts. Bhanvi Satija was born in Delhi in February 1996, just in time to welcome the spring. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism at the Lady Shri Ram College for Women at the University of Delhi. She was inspired to take up journalism due to her love of language and an ardent desire to change the world. She is an avid traveller, a voracious reader and a passionate storyteller. She also enjoys baking, so much so that she has earned the title of the official pastry chef of the family. She is a Bollywood junkie and believes that Shah Rukh Khan will lead all Indians to safety when the Apocalypse comes, and then do the Lungi Dance. She believes that her best feature is her smile, which literally says, “Ae vekho mere dimple!” She cares deeply about women’s issues and in the next five years, Bhanvi plans to “do enough to call [herself] a feminist” and travel widely whilst trying to change the world with her writing. Her love for her profession is what drives her to write and critique about different kinds of food, and she hopes to continue learning the multifarious amount of skills that Spoon has to offer.
