Everything You Can Do While in Line at Diddy Riese

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UCLA chapter.

It’s the start of a new year here at UCLA and with a heat wave rolling across Southern California, there is no better time to head over to Diddy Riese for an ice cream sandwich. As returning students know and new students will figure out soon, the Diddy Riese line never dwindles. Make the line go by faster with these activities.

1. Make Friends

They are all these people around you in line, and we’re supposed to be one big bruin family, right? Get to know the people around you.

2. Register to vote

This election season has been billed as the most insane in US history—be a part of the madness by registering yourself as a voter.

3. Start a game of telephone

Everyone is already in a line, it’s the perfect time for a game of telephone.

4. Manage your student loans

Loans are serious business, so use your time in line to check on and organize your funds. It is also a good way to impress your new friend with how responsible you are.

5. Serenade someone

Los Angeles is full of beautiful people, romance one of them with the caramel tones of your rendition of ‘Let’s get it on’ by Marvin Gaye.

6. Call your mom

Its been three days since she’s heard from you, she’s probably worried. Comfort your mom and let her know that even though you miss her home cooked food, you are making sure to get your daily dose of ice cream.

7. Busk

A Diddy Riese sandwich will only set you back $2.50 so a quick five minute street performance while you wait would probably earn you enough money for one. Pull out the chainsaws you always keep handy to juggle with.

8. Apply to Spoon

You obviously like us enough to be most of the way through this article, so take the plunge and become a part of a group of writers, photographers and marketers, all in love with food. The link is here.

9. Check your phone

Look, who am I kidding? You’re not really taking any of my suggestions, you’re just going to be on your phone the whole time. So go ahead, Instachat or Snapgram or play that Kate Kardashian game. Filthy millennials.

I love eating and cooking, and cooking then eating and all the wonderful ways food brings us together and pushes us to explore the cities around us.
