Apply for UCLA Spoon Fall 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UCLA chapter.

Sophomore year, walking through Haines, I saw a little piece of paper with a logo shaped like a spoon on it telling me to apply for this thing called Spoon University. Is it a school? I thought, can I please take classes there? After some research I discovered that Spoon is an awesome community of people from my generation who just. love. food. I applied, and after a year became UCLA’s Editorial Director. In that time, I went from not even knowing what Spoon University was to knowing that it will be one of the highlights of my university experience. Here are some of the reasons why:

1. You become a true foodie

You might think you’re in-the-know when it comes to food. But are you the first person that a new restaurant contacts when come into town, the first person to understand the craziest new food cravings, or the first person that brings a new rainbow-colored something recipe to the masses? That’s when you know you’re a foodie.

2. You get to eat and put it on your resume

Spoon University actually looks bomb on your resume. You get to talk about you experience working with a diverse team and about how you found a way to do it while exploring your true passion.

3. You get to be part of an amazing community

The Spoon community is unlike any that I’ve been part of at UCLA. With a mission to bring amazing food to fellow students (and watermelon kegs), you’ll make friends for life.

4. You have an excuse to try all of LA’s amazing food

LA’s food scene is internationally renown, but as a student it can be hard to get out there to experience. Now you have a reason to! Tell everyone about those far-flung taco trucks that they just have to try.

5.You get to be (slightly) famous

Your articles will reach literally thousands of people at UCLA and around the country. Your unique voice will be heard by all. Plus, you’ll build your street cred as the all your friend’s “food person.”
I really can’t emphasize enough how amazing Spoon has been for me. I hope you will apply too!
