A long time ago in a city far, far away… I had dessert at Pie Hole, located in the Los Angeles Art District. I had such sweet memories of that visitation. It was rainy day in LA. I had a cup of hot chocolate and a slice of Earl Grey Tea pie. Pure bliss.
Unfortunately, I never came back to Pie Hole. Many years have passed, but for some strange reason I never got the chance to go back. Fast forward to the present day, I heard Pie Hole opened a new location in Orange County (the current county of my residence). As soon as I heard this fantastic news I knew I had to go.
Pie Hole is a lovely little restaurant that strives to bake joy into wonderful seasonal pies that range from sweet to savory. The business originated in Los Angeles and gradually expanded to other areas such as Pasadena and Orange County. The newest addition to the Pie Hole chain is currently located in Old Towne Orange.
I must admit, it’s a bit of a drive from Irvine, but sometimes we must make these necessary sacrifices for those we love! I desperately needed to rekindle with my lost love: the pie that got away.
Okay, I’m just being over dramatic. Let’s review the wonderful pies we got!
Mac ‘n’ Cheese
Wow. This pie is truly one of a kind! When I first tried it I finally realized why there was so much hype. And it has earned a place among my favorite pies. Ever. I highly recommend this pie to any lover of mac and cheese. The crust is flaky and flavorful, but the true star is the mac and cheese filling. It’s really delicious! This will be a must-buy for all of my future visits.
Veggie Curry
I really loved this pie. I found this pie incredibly filling. It took one single bite for me to fall in love. The curry flavors are awesome and were reminiscent of a samosa (a savory Indian fried pastry). I enjoyed this pie very much and would order it again.
Earl Grey Tea
Huzzah! I have finally been reunited with my all-time favorite pie from Pie Hole. This is the famous Earl Grey Tea pie. I think it’s important to note that this is one of the most popular pies in the whole restaurant series!
This pie has several layers that add dimension to this lovely little pie: the crispy pie crust, on top is a layer of chocolate, then there’s the decadent layer of tea cream, and finally topped with pistachios. This is literally my FAVORITE pie.
Mom’s Apple Crumble
Apple pie is a classic. I know, apple pie may seem basic, but its familiarity is what makes it so delicious. We all love a slice of warm apple pie. Plus, adding a few scoops of vanilla ice cream and a side of whipped cream enhances this experience.
This pie comes out nice and warm, a nice contrast to the cool and creamy ice cream. The crumble on top adds a nice texture and is complements the gooey, warm apple filling. It’s overall a very good apple pie.
Mom’s Strawberry Pie
This is a different take on traditional strawberry pies. Instead of being topped with pie crust, we can immediately see that beautiful pink strawberry filling from the outside. The pie holds itself together with a gelatinous strawberry jelly filled with chunks of strawberries. Once you take a bite, you’ll notice a sweet zing that will encompass your mouth. This pie is light and refreshing!
Note – this is a seasonal flavor and is not available all year-round.
Mexican Chocolate
Okay, this is my second FAVORITE pie. This pie is so incredibly rich. It is a thick Mexican chocolate that is topped with a thick type of cream. This pie literally melts in your mouth. Plus, it’s one of the more inexpensive pies so it’s definitely worth your money. But regardless, it’s a damn good pie!
Cereal Killer Cheesecake
Let’s all admire how pretty this cheesecake is. First and foremost, this cheesecake easily catches anyone’s eye with its bright colors and nostalgic cereals. But this cheesecake isn’t just pretty, but it’s scrumptious! I gotta admit, this Cereal Killer totally KILLED IT! Ha!
All jokes aside, this was a very good cheesecake. When I tried it, it didn’t feel heavy like most cheesecakes. The cereal also added crunch to complement the creamy cheesecake. It was so yummy!
Note – this is also a seasonal flavor and is not available year-round.
Overall, my fateful return to Pie Hole was simply magical. I am so glad to finally come back and try so many different pies. I urge anyone who is reading this to make your way to the closest Pie Hole so you too can indulge in deliciously unique pies.
