This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Berkeley chapter.

Here at Spoon, we love tea. Need proof? Just look at the best teas for every mood, our ultimate tea guide, and why we believe tea is better than coffee. It shouldn’t be a surprise that we love taking commonplace desserts and elevating them by pairing them with the perfect tea. Next time you chow down a slice of cake or piece of brownie, make it a classy experience by accompanying your dessert with tea.

White chocolate and green tea is as classic a combination as chocolate and peanut butter. So, next time you indulge in some white chocolate-y goodness, do yourself a favor and pair it with a nice cup of jasmine green tea.

2. Matcha green tea with vanilla bean ice cream, affogato style

Typically, affogato is made using espresso, but who would turn down a hot, creamy mug of matcha green tea poured over vanilla bean ice cream? This one is also great for those looking to cut back on their coffee intake.

Have you ever been to afternoon tea? This combination is everywhere in England, and for good reason. So, if you’re in the mood for something fancy, sip on some lavender tea while you eat a buttery, crisp shortbread.

What’s better than moist cake with hot tea to wash it down? Spicy chai tea is the perfect balance to the sometimes lackluster pound cake.

#SpoonTip: Dip the pound cake in the tea. You won’t be disappointed.

Sometimes, foods as tangy as berries need something a little bitter to offset the sweetness — this is where the earl grey comes in. Black tea with just a little bit of kick, earl grey is the perfect match to a flaky and sweet berry pie.

This floral tea is great paired with a nice plate of gooey brownies. The lightness of the tea compliments the richness of the brownies perfectly, leaving you satisfied and just a little caffeinated.

With this in mind, go forth and enjoy tea time with all the cakes, cookies, brownies, ice cream, and of course, tea you want!
