What to Eat at SoMa’s StrEat Food Park in San Fran

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Berkeley chapter.

It’s summertime in San Francisco, which means attempting to catch rays of the elusive Bay Area sun, having an excuse to spend all day (and night) outdoors and our personal favorite, attending all of the glorious summer food festivals.

This Friday, July 31st, combine all of the above at the Summer in SoMa at SoMa StrEat Food Park, the Bay Area’s first and largest food truck park and beer garden. Event admission is free and the food is fantastic, especially when paired with alcohol (for those lucky souls over 21), live music, carnival games and hourly raffles (Read: free Chipotle and Starbucks).

Food vendors will feature cuisines from all around the world, ranging from Kokio Republic’s Korean fried chicken and Odang Udon’s hand-spun noodles to Tacos El Tuca’s freshly made tacos and Firetrail Pizza’s legendary pies. But when in doubt, there will always be Bacon Bacon, AKA the bacon-dedicated food truck of your dreams, or Post Street Creamery and Frozen Kuhsterd, for all your cold and creamy needs. (That’s more than enough to win us over, but you can see the full list of vendors here.)

The event will be hosted by JoinJade, a movement launched by the Asian Liver Center (ALC) at Stanford University to raise awareness about hepatitis B, the leading cause of liver cancer.

The ALC primarily targets Asians and Asian Americans, a group with disproportionately high rates of chronic hepatitis B infection and liver cancer, but ultimately aims to eliminate the disease’s transmission and associated stigma as a whole. Their Jade Ribbon Campaign unites the public in the fight against hepatitis B and supports the 350 million people living with and suffering from it worldwide.

Good food for a good cause? Sounds like a no-brainer to us. Plus, it’s summer and a Friday night, so you really have no excuse. Bring your friends, your dog and most importantly, your appetite, and we’ll see you in SoMa for some serious summer (str)eats.
