Munchery: Gourmet Food at Your Doorstep

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Berkeley chapter.

Life as a college student is not as easy as others might think. We have to take care of papers, problem sets, midterms, research and extracurricular activities, while still trying to enjoy the college experience. During busy times, the last thing we want to worry about is food, especially those without university meal plans.

No worries, Spoon has a solution. Introducing Munchery, a food delivery service that brings freshly prepared dinner to your door!

Started by a group of busy parents, Munchery is not your typical delivery service that has employees drive to a restaurant to pick up food. Instead, it is an online forum that connects consumers with a local network of professional chefs.

A couple of signature dishes from each culinary artist are featured on the website every week, and the menu changes daily. These highly regarded chefs have years of experience and training putting together gourmet entrees and sides. They only use the highest quality, locally grown ingredients in their dishes.

With a simple click on your mobile device or laptop, you can easily place an order for a great dinner in the comfort of your own home. Add the dishes to your cart and check out before 2 PM for same day delivery. You can even preorder meals for the entire week (Monday to Friday), making planning easy.

During checkout, you will then set a location and time (1 hour window) for delivery. A small fee will be added to each order for delivery purposes. In addition, a gratuity can be added for driver on the website or in person.

Each meal comes in a microwave-safe container and is chilled to maintain freshness. If you are not home at the expected time of delivery, you can participate in the Cooler Drop-Off Service. Simply place a small ice chest with fresh ice packs outside of your place of residence, and Munchery drivers will safely drop off your food. A fresh meal will be on your porch when you arrive home!

If these perks aren’t enough to convince you to order, Munchery also supports sustainability as well as the underprivileged community. Each meal comes in a fully recyclable and compostable container, saving on valuable natural resources. In addition, with every meal purchased, the company promises to donate to local food banks, ensuring that everyone eats a good dinner.

So next time you are booked and need help with dinner plans, try Munchery. They currently have a referral promotion, with a free $20 credit for both you and your friend who sign up, so take advantage of it while you can.
