As we move towards eating organic and whole foods to take care of our bodies, we should also show our skin the same kind of care. Instead of wasting time and money comparing brands and ingredients, you can use these 7 foods in your fridge for a complete facial skincare routine.
#SpoonTip: Because everyone has different skin, apply a small portion of any new product to a patch of skin on your arm and wait 24 hours to make sure you don’t have a bad reaction.
Cleanser: Olive oil
Although applying oil to your face may seem counterintuitive, remember that oil dissolves oil. An olive oil cleanser can reach deep into your pores for a thorough cleanse. Massage the olive oil onto your face for 1-2 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water.
Exfoliator: Brown sugar & honey
Exfoliating 1-2 times a week removes dead skin cells for your skin to glow. Combine 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 3 tablespoons of honey and gently apply to your face, washing off after 15 minutes. You can grind the brown sugar with a coffee machine to reduce its abrasiveness.
Toner: Lemon
Toning restores the skin to its natural, slightly acidic pH to prevent bacterial growth. Take lemon juice and dilute with water to a 1:2 ratio. If your skin is more oily or you feel the toner is too weak, you can increase the ratio to 1:1.
Facial mask: Strawberry
Berries, especially strawberries, contain antioxidants that help prevent the breakdown of collagen and radical damage to skin cells. They’re also chock full of vitamin C, an anti-aging compound, which brightens your skin. Mash up a handful of berries and apply directly to your face.
Eye area: Green tea
We’ve mentioned green tea’s benefits, but for your skin, the anti-inflammatory antioxidants fight aging and reduce puffiness. Take 2 damp tea bags, let them cool in the fridge, and rest them on your eyes for 15 minutes.
Moisturizer: Banana
With a surprisingly high 74% water content along with vitamins A, B, E, and potassium, bananas can moisturize, help get rid of dark spots, and smooth out rough skin. Mash up a ripe banana and apply directly, washing off any remains after 20 minutes.
Cream: Olive oil & vinegar
Make sure your skin remains hydrated while you sleep. Combine 1/2 cup of olive oil, 1/4 cup vinegar, and 1/4 cup water. Olive oil can lighten dark spots and vinegar is antibacterial — together, they’ll take care of your skin so you can wake up bright and fresh-faced.
Everyone has a unique skin type, so experiment with different foods to see what works best for you. We hope your skin is healthier and happier after trying these methods!
