3 Reasons Why You Need to Join Spoon University at Berkeley

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Berkeley chapter.

Once again, it’s the start of another semester here in Berkeley, which can only mean one thing — Spoon University at Berkeley is recruiting! If you’re a Berkeley student interested in anything and everything food-related, here’s why you should come Spoon with us.

1. We explore food together.

Cal Spoon is a student-run publication dedicated to becoming the everyday food resource of our campus. But we don’t just write about food — we test new recipes, explore the best eats around campus, and enjoy everything in between together. So, if you’re in need of a baking buddy, a brunch crew, or just a group of fellow foodies to geek out over food with, look no further.

2. We share our love of food with the entire campus.

Not only do we have fun at our Spoon socials, we also regularly engage with the entire campus community. Every year, we collaborate with other Berkeley food organizations and performance groups to hold our annual Spoonfest. We have bake sales for fundraising and host talks (read: free samples) with food stars like Tess Masters, AKA The Blender Girl.

3. We give back to the community.

In addition to donating half of our Spoonfest proceeds to the UC Berkeley Food Pantry, we volunteer and give back to the community through food-related service projects. Each semester, we take on a new project to share our love of food with all of Berkeley.

If any of this gets you excited, apply to join the Spoon University at Berkeley team this semester! We are looking for enthusiastic writers, editors, photographers, videographers, and business team members.

Our applications can be found here and are due on Sunday, September 4th at 11:59 PM. Please submit all applications and any questions to calspoonuniversity@gmail.com. We hope to meet you soon!
