The Three Wildest and Most Underrated Philly Brunch Dishes

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Penn chapter.

If you want to spice up your Instagram with something other than Green Eggs’ Birthday Cake French Toast or Sabrina’s Stuffed French Toast, then I recommend trying the following places. These other brunch spots in Philly have items that are equally as decadent and creative, but of a much higher quality. Brunch doesn’t always have to be decadent, but when you wake up after a long Saturday night you’re going to want to check these places out.

Lift’s cannoli French toast puts competitors to shame. If you don’t believe me just take a look at the menu’s description, “Challah bread dredged in a cinnamon vanilla custard, baked, then finished with bananas, chipped chocolate, pistachios, and homemade ricotta cannoli filling.” If that doesn’t make you salivate then I’m not sure what will. Beyond that, Café Lift offers an unmatched specials menu complete with breakfast tacos, egg paninis, and delicious burgers.

Honey’s Sit ‘N Eat

Honey’s also has a specials menu to write home about, but the real stars of its menu are the Honey Cristo and the Breakfast Bomb. The Honey Cristo is Honey’s insane take on the classic Monte Cristo that sandwiches ham, cheese, and eggs between French Toast. It’s the ideal start to your Sunday morning. The breakfast bomb, a giant buttermilk pancake stuffed with scrambled eggs and your choice of breakfast meat, is also not to be missed.

This adorable Aussie restaurant recently raised the bar by offering French toast… stuffed with bacon, egg, and cheese. The addition of French toast takes the classic bacon, egg, and cheese to a level that escapes the simple bagel. It’s the perfect blend of salty and sweet and the right choice for the indecisive (hungover) bruncher who wants a little bit of everything.

Although this article highlights what may be the “crazier” dishes these restaurants offer, the restaurants serve amazing brunches that cover your more “basic” needs. So next weekend consider skipping Sabrina’s; your stomach will thank you.
