Last Tuesday, Frontera, the new Rick Bayless restaurant on campus, finally opened its doors.
While the menu is extensive, offering various options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, our favorites are the tortas, with the “Pepito” as the standout option.
Sandwiched between grilled ciabatta bread, slathered in cilantro crema and Chihuahua cheese, and filled with tender short ribs, creamy avocado and sharp arugula, this sandwich is guaranteed to be infinitely better than anything you’ve had on campus so far.
However, there are a few drawbacks to the restaurant. Namely salt. It overpowers the soups and the chips and guacamole. Also, going at rush hour is hardly the move, as the lines stretch out the door and the new employees struggle to keep pace. However, we have faith that these flaws will be resolved with a little more time and experience.
All in all, Frontera puts Houston and other campus options to shame.
