You’d think that eventually one type of sandwich would get old. Once you’ve had one Italian combo, you’ve had ’em all, right? Wrong. So, so wrong. When visiting Paesano’s, the king of all sandwich shops in Philly, ordering an Italian combo style sandwich might seem like a cop-out. You’ll feel pressure to go for something extravagant like the Meatloaf Parmesan, the Bolognese Fried Lasagna ‘wich, or the signature Beef Brisket namesake hoagie that tops their menu. It’s easy to look over the Daddy Wad on a menu so decadent, but I beg you to give it a chance. Allow it to re-introduce you to the concept of the Italian combo, and watch it take your archetype of the sandwich and elevate it to the absolute highest level of ‘wich stardom.
Mortadella with pistachio, salami, sopressata, cappacolla, sharp provolone, arugula, tomatoes, onions and sweet and hot peppers make this baby more an absolute work of art than a simple sandwich. The cold meats combine a slick and porky taste that’s cut with crunch from the raw onions. Hands down, the daddy of all Italian combos.
