My go-to meal is sushi. It checks off every “must-have” box on my decision list: reasonably priced, nutritionally sound, quick, tasty.
But odds are when you think of the sushi spots on campus, your mind goes to the cheaper, closer ones like Sadako or Ayaka — both good options for a quick bite. But, if you’ve got a little extra time, head down past Main Street to Miki. Located on South First Street, it’s worth the walk (or cab when it gets too cold to make the trek) for the best and freshest sushi in the area.

Miki’s menu is unlike your average Ann Arbor sushi joint; it’s loaded with over eighty different unique and exclusive rolls. Add in just the right amount of mood lighting and the quaint table setup, and this is definitely a fun place for “sushi with the girls.” The exotic rolls come with a higher price tag, but there are plenty of cheaper rolls with the same, fresh ingredients.

If you’re the one in the group who doesn’t go for raw fish, you can still find something great on the menu. Try the Miki Vegetable Roll — loaded with daikon sprouts, avocado, cucumber, seaweed salad and gobo root — or for something more unique, try the Banana Hama roll, a deep-fried banana topped with deep-fried sweet potato and the house sauce. Or, if you flat-out don’t want sushi, no worries. Miki offers appetizers and entrees that also cater to the non-sushi-lover’s palette.

But, if you dare to indulge in the fish options, go for a specialty roll like the mango fiesta roll, made with spicy crab salad, cucumber, avocado and asparagus, topped with thin mango slices and a sweet asian sauce (I’m drooling just thinking about it). Pro tip: try the Miso Sea Bass or the shrimp shumai. And don’t forget to order a cup of green tea — Miki offers it complimentary with your order.
