The Ultimate Game of Thrones Viewing Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Mich chapter.

Okay, we know you’re still bawling over the Red Wedding. But Starks or no Starks, Game of Thrones is back…tonight. And we’re already onto the next wedding! This season, be sure to watch as the devilish King Joffrey prepares to marry his bride-to-be, and join in on the epic feasting from your couch.

5 must-haves for the ultimate Westeros-inspired feast:

1. Mediterranean Inspiration

For snacking, go for Dornish appetizers, for newcomer Oberyn Martell. Dornish food is often very Mediterranean, with lots of stuffed grape leaves and feta. Try our easy hummus recipe or go to La Marsa and get the amazing garlic sauce to-go.

2. Exotic Fruit

Joffrey may be a brat, but we all know his bride-to-be Margery is the real brains behind the operation.  Make an exotic fruit bowl worthy of the Tyrells with a jar of pear halves soaked in grape juice ($3.99). Then add a few extra fresh fruits also picked from Highgarden … err, I mean Trader Joes. Or, follow this recipe for roasted pear and pomegranate.

3. Something Devilish

Dany’s dragons are almost grown up! Remember their beginnings and add a touch of fire with these Deviled Dragons’ Eggs—a classic deviled egg recipe topped with plenty of paprika.

4. A Dornish Dessert

Head south for a Dornish Dessert—aka Trader Joe’s Chocolate Ganache Danish Pastry ($4.99). Or, try making these epic mini-molten cakes…because even the road to the Iron Throne has its sweet side.

5. Wine, Wine and more Wine

Ommegang Brewery has teamed up with Game of Thrones to create original handcrafted beers based on the show. Look out for season four’s new dragon-inspired “Fire and Blood” Red Ale (unfortunately not yet sold in Michigan).

But if you can’t get your hands on Ommegang’s fast-selling brew, drink like the Lannisters with a large glass of mulled wine.

Easy

Ingredients:
1 bottle of cheap red wine (think Charles Shaw)
1 orange, peeled
Cinnamon sticks

Directions:
1. Put all the ingredients in a saucepan.
2. Bring to a boil, then simmer for at least a half hour.
3. Serve in mugs, and drink every time someone dies or Jaime Lannister cries about his hand.

Seriously, you can never have enough wine.
