The Sugarplum Macchiato: Worth the Hype?

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Conn chapter.

Dunkin’s new Sugarplum Macchiato was released on December 2nd. Since then, there has been so much controversy regarding the drink.

Some say it’s delicious, while others think it might be the most disgusting thing Dunkin’ has put out yet.

Naturally, I had to get one to try out.

One of the things Dunkin’ advertised when marketing the drink was the beautiful purple color. So I ask you, where’s the purple?!

Ok, maybe they messed it up and forgot to add in the coloring, so they just put in the flavoring to a macchiato. I don’t know what happened, but it was still pretty good.

There is a very clear plum aftertaste to the drink, so if you’re not a huge fan of plums lingering in your mouth, this drink won’t be for you.

On the flip side, if that doesn’t bother you, you’ll be glad to know the drink isn’t sickly sweet. In fact, it’s less sweet than most of the Starbucks drinks that you can get.

That being said, it does still maintain a mainly sweet taste. You can’t really taste the coffee, since the plum and milk flavors are the main stars.

Overall, I liked it. It actually reminds me a bit of the milk at the bottom of a bowl of sugary cereal. Fruity Pebbles, maybe.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if you want to spend your money on this drink. But I’m here to tell you you might not regret it if you do.
