Go Macro: Rating Protein MacroBars

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Tulane chapter.

As a college student who is always on the go, I am always looking for a morning pick-me-up. Protein bars have always been my go-to option since they are both nutritious and filling. However, after indulging in many protein bar brands throughout college, MacroBars have caught my eye. They are one of the only brands filled with clean ingredients and act as a low-calorie option for a healthier lifestyle. And, they are even organic, vegan, and gluten-free. Below, I will be rating protein MacroBars, starting with my favorite.

1. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip

Do you ever just wake up in the morning and crave a semi-sweet chocolate chip cookie? Or the perfect hot oatmeal or rolled oats? Well, you’re in luck! This protein bar makes your mouth water with its perfect combination of flavorful oatmeal spice topped off with the right amount of chocolate chips. Throw it in the microwave or have it cold from the refrigerator before indulging!

 My GoMacro Rating: 10/10

2. Dark Chocolate + Almonds

Dark chocolate is always better. If you always go for dark chocolate-covered almonds or any kind of nut, this bar is for you. It has decadent almonds with a rich use of chocolate, making it a great substitute if you have a sweet tooth. The almonds are not too overpowering and it adds a nice crunch, just like your favorite candy bar.

 My GoMacro Rating: 8.5/10

3. Double Chocolate + Peanut Butter Chips

This double chocolate and peanut butter chip bar is smooth and tastes just like Reese’s peanut butter cups. If you love a daily dose of peanut butter, this bar is for you. And, of course, chocolate makes everything taste more flavorful. You’ll want to purchase this at your local Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.

 My GoMacro Rating: 8/10

4. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

Calling all my peanut butter lovers!! Personally, this peanut butter chocolate chip bar was not my favorite. Since chocolate is a staple in my diet, and I love a chocolate base, the other chocolate bars are more desirable for my palette. The peanut butter overpowers the chocolate in this bar. However, if creamy or nutty peanut butter is an everyday essential for you, you will love this bar.

 My GoMacro Rating: 7.5/10

5. Coconut + Almond butter + Chocolate chip

This bar was not for me since I do not love coconut. The combination of the coconut and almond butter overpowered the chocolate chips, and it tasted way too nutty, with no sweetness. However, if you love coconut and almond butter, do not be discouraged and try out this bar.

 My GoMacro Rating: 6/10

As a college student, I have found it hard to cook every meal. Although protein bars are not as healthy as eating whole fruits and vegetables, these protein bars provide college students with a quick and on-the-go option. And, if you are tracking your daily macros, GoMacro Protein Bars are a great way to meet your fitness goals and live a healthier lifestyle –with a dose of sweetness and fullness.
