Although the hot chocolate machine at Dewick may spew what is essentially chocolate-flavored water, there is potential for rich, creamy, flavorful hot chocolate using only ingredients found in the Tufts dining halls.
This classic hot chocolate recipe (see below) is excellent, but it can also be easily adapted to make many other flavor variations.
For peppermint hot chocolate, after step 1, microwave the hot chocolate and milk mixture and steep with a peppermint tea bag for several minutes (to taste). Then follow the recipe as usual from step 2 onward.
Add cinnamon before microwaving for a spicy Mexican hot chocolate.
Or add a dollop of organic peanut butter or Nutella for decadent nutty creations.
Substitute the machine hot chocolate with coffee to make yourself a mocha.
If you’re lucky enough to be in the dining hall on Sundae Sunday (or Thursday), knock yourself out with ingredients from the topping bar: hot fudge, chocolate chips, and cookie crumble all make particularly great additions.

Fill mug about 1/3 of the way with machine hot chocolate and 1/6 with your milk of choice.
Fill the rest of your mug with chocolate frozen yogurt.
Microwave for 20 seconds.
Remove from the microwave, stir, then microwave for 40 more seconds.
Top with whipped cream and enjoy!
