You are probably thinking right now, “how can this be?! How did I miss this?” I know, because like you, I am Texas born and raised and have grown up going to this iconic Texas institution my entire life. In fact, some of my earliest memories involve playing with the orange and white-striped children’s toys that came free with every meal.
So imagine my surprise when my sister, nonchalantly skimming through Buzzfeed (you can read the original article here), jumped out of her seat and screamed, “Whataburger has a secret menu!” This sparked the investigative journalist in me, as I called and visited at least six different Whataburgers in the San Antonio and Austin areas within the hour. Everyone has a different understanding, but basically, true to their motto, the fantastic employees will make it “just like you like it.”
Now, without further ado, enjoy!
Apple Pie Milkshake
In San Antonio, this creamy creation has its own name –“The Alamo.” They will put one of their hot apple pies in a cup and top the whole thing with their thick vanilla milkshake. Whoa.
Grilled Cheese

Not technically secret since it’s listed under the children’s menu, but honestly, who ever looks at that small box in the bottom corner? The thought of melted cheese between two slices of the buttery Texas toast makes me want to stop writing this post and get over there for second dinner.
Veggie Burger with Hashbrowns
Instead of asking them to hold the patty and getting a few slices of tomato and iceberg lettuce for substitute, ask for hashbrown strips, or get creative with some of the other toppings like sautéed mushrooms and avocado.
Chicken and Pancakes

A spin on the traditional chicken and waffles. Sadly, this one can only be ordered from 11 pm to 11 am during the breakfast hours. Darn these limited hours-only meals.
Honey Butter Chicken Strip Sandwich

If you cannot wait until 11 pm, order a honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich, hold the cheese and BBQ sauce, and substitute the sinful honey butter sauce instead (sauce all day long). You’ll have to sacrifice the biscuit, but some sacrifices in life are necessary for the greater good.
The Hulk
This vibrant green drink combines both Powerade and Vault soda. Try ordering it with a straight face, I dare you.

This one is my own creation. Simply ask for a vanilla milkshake with a little room at the top. Mix in a shot or two of Crush soda for orange flavor and color and you’ve got yourself a customized Creamsicle shake.
