Where to Get the Best Froyo in Austin

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Texas chapter.

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love frozen yogurt? This trendy delight satisfies pretty much every craving imaginable. It seems like all of the DIY frozen yogurt shops have a new topping every week and I’m sure no one’s complaining. Everyone knows Austin has some of the best restaurants, but the frozen yogurt options are pretty promising too. Here’s a list of some of the best shops in town, each offering the perfect dessert.

1. Yogurt Planet

Located in the Triangle where Guadalupe St. and N. Lamar meet, Yogurt Planet is by far one of Austin’s top frozen yogurt places. With new flavors regularly, no one can ever get bored. Yogurt Planet has some of the most unique flavors, like graham cracker (literally tastes like you’re biting right into a teddy graham), cake batter (tastes like fresh batter), and pecan praline (has that perfect sweet nut flavor). It also offers every topping from chocolate covered waffle cones to walnuts and quality fruit.

2. Berry Austin

Have you ever thought about eating all of the marshmallows out of the Lucky Charms box? Well, the people at Berry Austin did.  All of those marshmallows picked out of the cereal are offered as a topping, and they also pretty much have every topping imaginable besides that. This is the perfect yogurt place for someone who hates the typical, tart fro-yo places. Its yogurt is actually creamy and tastes just like soft serve ice cream. Located down on 2nd street, try Berry Austin for dessert after your next dinner downtown.

3. Campus Candy

Located on the drag, Campus Candy is the spot for when you need a quick sweet-fix between your classes. With literal walls of candy lining the store, you can do some pretty serious damage in there if you walk in starving, which I don’t recommend. Every candy you can possibly think of is in there and it is definitely impossible to resist. The frozen yogurt bar has chunks of delicious chocolate candy bars that fit perfectly on top of your swirls of yogurt.

4. Pinkberry

It’s quite a hike to Westlake to get some Pinkberry, but we all know it’s worth the drive. This is one of the few frozen yogurt places left that doesn’t force you to go through the hassle of topping your froyo to perfection. Pinkberry employees know how to perfectly distribute your frozen yogurt and toppings so that you avoid that mess we usually create on our own. What’s the best flavor you may ask? Hands down, chocolate hazelnut. And for the toppings, you can get nearly all the toppings you want for just $1.00 extra.

5. Red Mango
This DIY frozen yogurt chain never gets old. The flavors change quite often, but the best regulars include Madagascar vanilla, pomegranate, and nutty potion (nutella). The mochi rice balls and flavored goji are the perfect toppings for the tart flavors. Located in west campus, Red Mango is the perfect place to go for your next study break before heading back to class.
