This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Texas chapter.

Austin never fails to prove that it has some of the best food around. Whether you are looking for a midnight snack or for a little appetizer before lunch, queso is your go-to dish. Warm melted cheese blended with peppers (or even guacamole) has never failed anyone. Here’s a list of the places you should hit up if you’re looking for the best queso in Austin.

Torchy’s Tacos

Torchy’s queso is known all around Texas. The dip has the perfect combination of spice, and the sprinkled cheese and added guacamole make for a mouth-watering dish. Don’t forget to try the chorizo queso for even more flavor and spice!

Kerbey Lane

Best known as the Kerbey Queso, this delicious melted cheese dip will blow your mind. You get that amazing guacamole and queso combo in your first bite, and there’s no turning back. No matter what the time of the day, this queso is the perfect snack. Add some salsa into the mix to make an even better combo.

Grizzelda’s

Great drinks. Great vibes. Great queso. Grizzelda’s is a fun place to hang with friends while snacking on some chips and queso. The queso has a good balance of heat, making each dip even better then the next. Make sure to order some drinks to enjoy with these chips!

El Burro

El Burro incorporates authentic Mexican spice into its queso. Make sure to try the queso fundido, a popular Mexican dish of melted cheese with chorizo baked to perfection in a small skillet. Put some of that in a corn tortilla for a treat that will satisfy your taste buds.

Chuy’s

Home to the best Tex Mex in Texas, Chuy’s serves up appetizing queso that will have you ordering seconds. This Austin-founded restaurant will always put a smile on your face with its melted cheese helping.

Tyson’s Tacos

Tyson’s Tacos is known for its tasty, cleverly-named tacos, but many don’t know that Tyson’s queso is also heavenly. The spicy peppers with the melted cheese are quite a pair, and you’re guaranteed to be fighting for the last bite.

Magnolia Cafe

Magnolia Cafe, known as Obama’s favorite place to eat in Austin, also has some of the best queso in the city. With authentic Tex-Mex flavors, each chip will satisfy your palate. Make sure to get to this place early cause it can get super crowded.

Taco Deli

Another taco place with some of the best queso around town is Taco Deli. Taco Deli’s queso is loaded with flavor that heats up your mouth after each bite.  Make sure to look out for special quesos on the menu such as the Roberto’s Brazo Fuerte Dip. This is another queso hotspot you won’t want to miss out on.

Queso puts a smile on everyone’s face and is great for sharing (or not). So the next time you are in the mood for a hot bowl of melted cheese, make sure to check out these places for the best queso in Austin.
