7 Cocktails to Make at Your Next Spring Soirée

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Texas chapter.

Ah, spring. Gone are the days of blistering cold weather, bulky, shapeless coats and boring cocktails. That’s right folks, as the weather warms up, we’re ditching the eggnog for something a little more refreshing. We’re talking lots of fruit, lots of booze (including rosé, which I’m sure all of you know is très chic these days) and lots of color. Check out these 7 spring-inspired cocktails guaranteed to be a hit at your next shindig:

1. Strawberry-Rhubarb Sangria

Who says strawberry and rhubarb are just for baked goods? Light, bubbly and refreshing, this crisp take on the classic sangria is sure to get the party going. Perfect for picnics, lake days or just a nice night in with the girls.

2. Italian Greyhound with Rosemary Sugar

Yeah, I have no idea why it’s called a “greyhound” either. But doesn’t that look divine? This cocktail has just the right balance of bitter, sweet and aromatic. The grapefruit juice adds a nice touch of brightness, and to top it all off, it’s a damn good-looking cocktail.

3. The Wildcrafted Word

Now here’s something one of your cool high school teachers would probably drink. Flowery, fruity and super obscure — this is definitely a cocktail for those with a more “refined” palate. If you’re the adventurous type, this drink should be right up your alley.

4. Green Tea Mojitos

Mojitos and green tea — arguably two of the most refreshing beverages on the planet, depending on what state of “refreshed” you’re trying to reach. The white rum and green tea pair together perfectly in this cocktail, making for a cool, light drink. So mix one of these up, sit back, relax and try not to fall asleep in the sun.

5. Bee’s Knees

Easy, simple, delicious. With just 3 ingredients, the bee’s knees really is, well…the bee’s knees. (Thanks, I’ll be here all night.)

6. Mint Julep

Hailing from the South, I couldn’t help but add this timeless classic to the list. Whether you’re cheering on Buttermilk Chico at the Kentucky Derby or just lounging on your porch, there’s nothing like a good old mint julep to keep the heat at bay.

7. Hibiscus Margarita

This cocktail would probably be Jimmy Buffett’s favorite drink if Margaritaville was in the Caribbean. Inspired by a traditional drink known as “sorrel (also popular in Mexico, South America, and Central America), this cocktail gets its deep, rich red color from the hibiscus flower. Serve it chilled, over ice or in a frosted margarita glass — just don’t lose that shaker of salt.
