Four Weeks: Four Local Food Trucks

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at TAMU chapter.

The last week of our four weeks of food trucks features Big Daddy Z’s -a truck that offers island style quesadillas, tacos, rice bowls, and burritos. This Aggie owned and operated is one of Texas A&M’s newest lunch destinations that will make you crave summertime.

Usually found by the Liberal Arts building, next to Chef Tai, Big Daddy Z’s is one truck that you cannot miss.

For this lunch I ordered the Big Kahuna quesadilla filled with chicken, grilled pineapple, fresh cabbage, cheese, and teriyaki sauce. Definitely the most unique quesadilla I’ve ever had but it was also one of the most delicious. The cabbage gave the meal much needed texture and the grilled pineapple added a beautiful sweetness. I loved the flavor combo but wish it had more cheese. (#cheeselover)

Big Daddy’s also has three other flavor options – Surfing Texican, Rastaman, and the Heart & Seoul. If you’re feeling very adventurous, I recommend the Heart & Seoul rice bowl. Rice topped with kimchi, spicy mayo, sesame seeds, and a bulgogi sauce make for a flavor packed meal. Every bowl comes with a homemade spring roll side and a drink.

#SpoonTip: Check out their Facebook page for their location of the day!

As one of A&M’s favorite trucks, Big Daddy Z’s prides itself on using high quality meats and the freshest vegetables. Their unique flavor profiles and focus on ingredients promise that this Island-TexMex fusion food truck will be around for a while.
