The Guide to the Best Breakfast in Syracuse

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Syracuse chapter.

Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day. So why not start your day off right with the best breakfast out there? Syracuse has many restaurants to choose from. To help you decide where to get the best breakfast, I have created a list of my favorites.

Rise N Shine Diner

This is one of Syracuse’s newest and beloved breakfast spots. I just had to put it first! Rise N Shine Diner is perfect for Syracuse students, as it is only minutes away from campus. The wait for a table can be up to an hour, but I promise it is so worth it. The crazy milkshakes and decadent meals can satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. One of the craziest things they have on the menu is their campfire s’mores french toast which brings a campfire right to your table!

Mello Velo Bicycle Shop & Cafe

This breakfast place is half bike shop and half cafe. I won’t lie though, the cafe is my favorite part. At Mello Velo, they have eggs, french toast, and much more. Their Sunday brunch menu combines a classic lunch with a few breakfast additions to cure anyone’s Sunday scaries. Their French toast dish on Sunday though is a must have. It is both crunchy and sweet and is topped with their famous home made syrup! I swear, this alone is enough of a reason to go check it out.

Modern Malt

This restaurant has a really cool modern retro dinner feel. Located right in Armory Square, it is only a short drive away from the Syracuse University campus. They have a variety of entrees to choose from, however they are best known for their tater tots. These tots are served as sides with most of their meals. They also have tater tot nachos which are also a must-try!

Funk N Waffles

It may not come as a surprise to you that this place is best known for its delicious waffles. These waffles can be topped with fresh berries or served as a side with an omelette. My favorite waffle of theirs is the banana bread waffle. It combines my favorite treat into a crispy breakfast item. This restaurant has been a classic for Syracuse students for years. One of the best things about it is that they don’t just serve breakfast. They are even open for dinner so you can enjoy waffles all day long! A dream come true.

Stella’s Diner

Last on my list, Stella’s, has been a go-to weekend breakfast place for ‘Cuse students since forever. Their 24-hour breakfast menu leaves everyone satisfied no matter what they are craving. They do not take reservations, however, they get their parties in and out in an orderly manner so people aren’t waiting for too long. One of the things Stellas in known for is their Betty Boop decor. Dolls and posters fill the restaurant, renaming the place, the Betty Boop Diner! This spot is one of the classics and you really can’t go wrong with whatever you choose.
