5 Budget-Friendly Alcohols That Are Actually Gluten-Free

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at St. Mary's chapter.

If you’re like me, you didn’t realize how many brands of alcohol are gluten-free. Apparently, one of my gluten-free friends wasn’t aware either. I mentioned some of these on the list, and he was amazed. He wished he’d known sooner.

When you’re gluten-free, it’s still possible to have much the same alcoholic-fueled fun as anyone else, despite the restriction. Although this list doesn’t feature the absolute cheapest bottles, it does represent a bracket in the alcohol aisle bridging cost and respectable quality. Luckily, there are several gluten-free options in that bracket.

#SpoonTip: If you have celiac disease or otherwise want to play it extra safe, consult the Gluten-Free Survival Guide for more detailed information on alcohol consumption.

If this vodka for about $20 at the store doesn’t catch your eye, remember that Tito’s is handcrafted in its home state of Texas. It has also been featured by Southern Living, so it’s a fairly safe bet that this is a good one.

2. Malibu Original (rum)

This rum won’t extort you, and it’s still perfect for adding a bold coconut-flavored bite to your tropical summer drinks and desserts (like these rum cupcakes).

3. Jameson Original (Irish whiskey)

Jameson is always a good idea, even for a non-St. Paddy’s Day cocktail. If you want an enjoyable whiskey without spending the big bucks on the premium stuff, then you’re in luck, lad/lass.

4. Angry Orchard (hard cider)

You can get a variety box of this hard cider, well-liked by college students, for less than $20. It is the perfect alternative to hard alcohols and beer at a party. Be sure to point out the “naturally gluten-free” label printed on every bottle to your gluten-free friends.

5. Jose Cuervo Especial Silver (tequila)

Those same friends (or you yourself) may not have realized that Cuervo’s Especial Silver is gluten-free. Combined with the lack of a wallet-destroying pricetag and possibilities of a memorable night (or not), do you need anymore convincing? Well, in case you do, it actually has notable health benefits.
