7 Classic, Last Minute Game Day Snack Lifesavers

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at St. John’s chapter.

Finally. Football Season has officially begun as of Thursday September 8, and not only is my life complete but my pooch is cheering!

Now I have a legitimate excuse for drinking like a biker and eating like its going out of style while sitting on my couch screaming at my TV. Ugh, I love football and all its game day snackaroos. Let’s hit it.

So call the guys over, switch on the game, crack open a beer, and starting making these kick ass snacks.

1. Spinach Dip

This game day snack is a classic that will make your guests go back for seconds, thirds…Hell, every time I make it I park my butt on the closest stool and scoop that shit like its going out of style. This recipe is definitely my favorite one and is great for a last minute snack idea because can put it in the fridge for as little as 15 minutes or as long as it is before your game time.

#SpoonTip: if you have some time to get all fancy smancy get a sort of round loaf of bread (garlic is my choice it goes great with this dip), core out the middle, and pour the dip into there. Presentation points up the wazoo.

2. Queso

This dorm-friendly game day snack recipe is bound to be a hit during halftime. Its simple, but delicious three cheese blend can be whipped up within seconds of quarter ending.

It is perfect for a dorm room party because its bound to draw a crowd and you even get to embarrass yourself in the kitchen when you try to make this on the stove. Yay adulting!

3. Salsa

Is it really a party without chips and salsa? That just seems like the first thing everyone puts out when people come over. Maybe it is just me and I have a Tostitos addiction but chips and salsa is like my numero uno go to at every party. Like come on, who screws that up?

Well, if you are in a real time crunch you can just buy the Tostitos salsa and serve that classic beauty, or if you are feeling like Martha Steward this Sunday you can whip out your skills. This recipe is a fast one but may not be the most practical in a dorm room since a food processor is needed but hey you never know what your neighbors got going on in their rooms. Maybe you will get lucky and find one. If so, here is an ah-mazing salsa recipe with a little kick.

4. Tomato Mozzarella Salad

I do not think I have been to a family party/get together and this hasn’t been on the table. This may require a trip outside of your schools local market but it is definitely worth it. Fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and balsamic dressing has to be the best combination since PB&J.

Maybe it is just an Italian thing, but this plate is definitely a hit no matter where you are. It is simple and delicious and can be refrigerated all day while you prep for the rest of the day.

5. Adult Pizza Bagels

Oh it is so lit right now. As soon as I found this recipe I instantly picked up the tissues I got so emotional. Perfect. Game. Day. Snack. This beauty is not only tasty but it is a great twist on a classic that will throw you so far back into the 90s you’ll be humming the All That theme song after every bite.

Honestly, does it get any better than this? I have never made it but it seems to be a pain in the ass to make since it is a rarity at BBQs and game day parties. But when it is there, boy does it go fast.

I don’t know the person who invented this but I am imagining a woman named Susan concocting this in her kitchen for her kids on game day so thanks Susan you’re the bomb. This recipe uses my favorite hot sauce ever and just reading it has my planning out my grocery list for next Sunday.

7. Fried Pickles

While this may be a difficult dorm room recipe since someone will probably end up with third degree burns from the frying part of this recipe, this is definitely a crowd pleaser x100.

Just sitting in class writing this (sorry, prof) and thinking about dipping a fried pickle in that delicious sauce has me weak #sext. Although this may seem like a tedious dish it is actually really simple and fast.

St. John’s '19

Ileana is a purpled haired girl living in New York who holds a meal to a higher expectation than any man. She'll cry over a stale donut, but barely give a bad date a second thought. Like a typical #girlboss she is graduating early at the end of 2017 and will earn a degree in sports management. With this she plans on dominating the sports world with her killer heels and even better restaurant recommendations. Give this girl an Oreo milkshake and some Loubitons and she can rule the world one bite at a time.
