Tap Tuesday. Thirsty Thursday. Sloshed Saturday. In the blink of an eye, your money is now paying the rent of your local bar.
When you’re a college student it seems like there’s always a new reason to drink. Whether its ‘sylly’ week or a sorority event, you always find yourself throwing down a few bucks for that ice cold beer you’ve been craving all week.
Finder.com recently completed a study which reported that on average, a person sips on 10 drinks per week. Just think about how much money and calories are wasted on alcohol throughout your time in college.
Heres a list of a few other ways that you can spend your glory days:
1. Intramural Sports
Although you may not be the most athletic person around, your spunk and enthusiasm is always welcome on an intramural team. Many college students admit that the amount of alcohol they tend to consume often directly correlates with the amount of stress they are put under. Instead of running up a tab, run up the court. Grab a group of friends, come up with a fun team name, and get out on the field!
2. Attend A Live Performance
Once you cut back on the amount of money you spend on alcohol, you may find yourself with a little extra change in your pocket. What better way to spend it than with live music that you and your friends can sing along to. Throw on your cowboy boots and sway to your favorite country singer or rap along to your favorite Kanye verse. This may be an even more enjoyable way to let loose than those beers you’ve been having!
3. Go Hiking
Relax. It’s not as bad as it sounds. Sometimes just a simple stroll in the park with good company or music can be the perfect fix for a relaxing afternoon. However, if you are looking for a little bit more of a challenge, there are hundreds of trails and hidden waterfalls that are ready to be explored. For instance, Buttermilk Falls is a waterfall located in the Delaware River Gap National Park Area. It has a wooden staircase that leads you up the side of the waterfall and branches off into hiking trails of different difficulty levels. A waterfall may be just what you need to help wash away the stress of your semester.
4. Plan A Road Trip
There are countless interesting places to see when you venture out of the comfort of your college campus. Drive to the closest beach to play in the sand or perhaps head into the closet city and see what the streets have to offer. Museums can also be a unique thing to do for the day. Some recent pop ups in New York City include the Museum of Ice Cream, The Egg House, and an Ice Cream Museum for the near future.
5. Factory Tours
There are quite a few factories along the east coast that allow public tours, which could make for an interesting and unique day. Waterbury, Vermont is home to the Ben and Jerry’s Factory. You are able to take a look at how ice cream is made as well as stroll through their graveyard of all the flavors that didn’t make it. Keeping with the ice cream theme, the Turkey Hill Factory is located in Lancaster, PA. This allows children to take part in interactive activities such as making their own ice cream.
It’s time to get out there and try something new…
And no, I don’t mean the new drink special of the day!
