Where To Get The Best Pitcher In St Andrews

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at St Andrews chapter.

In a town that holds the reputation of having more pubs per square inch than any other city in Europe, it’s not uncommon to hear the words “want to get a drink?” uttered while walking down the street. Although wine, pints, and cocktails are easy to come by, the perfect pitcher is somewhat rarer to find. The best place to find one may come as a bit of a surprise: Jannettas.

Jannettas Gelateria has been on South Street in St. Andrews since 1908, and is renowned around town for their plethora of incredible ice cream flavors. Entering the cheerful, brightly colored pink and green ice cream parlor and café, even the most seasoned ice cream connoisseur faces a dilemma of choosing just one ice cream flavor out of the whopping 54 sprawled out before you.

The flavors range from the standard Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry to more unique flavors such as Cinnamon and Walnut, Chilli Chocolate, and Orange and Mascarpone. Standing there, pacing back and forth in front of the ice cream counter, you will find yourself torn between a flavor or two…or maybe even twelve. But, who says you have to decide between flavors?

At Jannettas getting all twelve of the flavors you want is a possibility, whether you’re one brave soul ready to binge or you’re accompanied by a few friends ready to throw down a frozen treat.

All you have to do is ask for a pitcher and, for just £15, your ice cream dreams will come true when your waiter serves you twelve scoops of flavors of your choice. On top of that they’re drenched in either hot fudge or strawberry sauce, sprinkled with mini marshmallows and crushed biscuits, and topped with a dollop of whipped cream.

Equally stuffed and content, and possibly suffering from a mild brain freeze, you’ll waddle out of Jannettas in awe, wondering how you managed to finish your pitcher. Speaking from experience, you’ll definitely be back again, ready to put your eating skills to work on another one.
