The Best Fall Items to get at Trader Joe’s that aren’t Pumpkin Spice

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at SMU chapter.

Pumpkin spice has become a classic symbol of the transition into fall. But what if (gasp!) you don’t actually like the iconic flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin? We all know how much Trader Joe’s loves their pumpkin spice themed items. Walking into the store, I saw aisles stacked with pumpkin ice cream, sandwich cookies, waffles, coffee… and even cream cheese spread? It wasn’t like these items were just sitting around— there were masses of people bustling in and out of the store, their arms full of these pumpkin flavored goodies.

However, I was determined to enjoy the fall time at Trader Joe’s without being hit by the pumpkin spice craze. Feeling like a lone wolf, I shuffled down the aisles, searching for something uniquely fall flavored —and it was actually a transformative experience to see so many non-pumpkin fall items.

If you are going to successfully avoid the pumpkin spice craze at Trader Joes, I recommend:

1. Apple Cranberry Tart

How could anyone say no to an apple cranberry tart? The warm fall spices and the flaky pastry would be perfect for a pick-me up anytime throughout the day. If you really want to be a good roommate — it would make the perfect sharing fall treat for two.

2. Maple Leaf Cookies

These maple leaf cookies are the perfect snack to have laying around, or stuffed in your purse, for those times when you just need something sweet. They absolutely remind me of the fall time — but without the pumpkin!

3. Harvest Blend Herbal Tea

If bakery goods aren’t your thing—the harvest blend herbal tea is the perfect way to go. To beat the cold season, and to stay warm and cozy on those cold Dallas mornings, this tea is the perfect addition to your tea/coffee selection.

4. Fall Zucchette Pasta

Who said pasta couldn’t be fall themed? These butternut squash noodles make an amazing fall afternoon lunch. Just add some lemon juice and seasoning, and you’ve got yourself a perfect October treat.

5. Spiced Chai

Nothing says beating the cold, muggy fall weather like a cup of warm, spiced chai. I honestly can’t imagine the fall time without this amazing pick-me-up. Trader Joe’s makes an amazing chai— just add almond milk for creaminess and you’ve got yourself your very own fall time treat.

Even if you don’t love pumpkin spice — Trader Joe’s has you covered for your fall essentials. Fall time is an amazing few months where you should treat yourself to all the yummy goodness that you can find — whether that be herbal teas, cranberry pastries, or cups of warm chai — you are set to take on the chilly weather that October brings, even without the pumpkin spice.
