5 Coconut Oil Beauty Hacks For Your Daily Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Seton Hall chapter.

Coconut Oil on its surface may seem like one of those au naturale hippie trends. However, in reality, the health benefits you can get by incorporating the product into your daily routine are exponential! By using coconut oil in place of potentially harmful chemicals and products, you’re not only making a healthier choice, but saving your wallet from buying treatments that just don’t work as well.

If you are anything like me and love a FULL face of makeup then this hack will be life-changing to your routine. Regardless of how many times I use makeup wipes, it never gets all of the makeup off. Coconut oil is the best solution for a clean face, especially if you have sensitive skin. While moisturizing your skin, it will also take off even the most resistant, stubborn mascara and eyeliner you have. Truly a win in my book.

#SpoonTip: if you have oily or combination skin, you might want to skip this one!

2. Whitening Toothpaste

As an avid coffee drinker, the stains that remain after finishing my non-fat caramel macchiato can be very disheartening. Mixing a little coconut oil with some baking soda is a quick fix for whiter, shinier teeth! I mean, they always say your smile is your best accessory, so…

There is nothing worse than having dry skin or lips, especially during those horrible winter months. As a person who has very dry skin, I’ve found this hack to be a real lifesaver! The nutrients from the coconut oil promote healthy skin while adding coarse sugar will scrub away all your dead, dry skin. This dynamic duo acts as a fantastic body scrub for dry skin on your elbows, hands, and feet! For a lip scrub, combine coconut oil with brown sugar and honey for a gentler, yet effective formula. The result? Lips and skin that will feel moisturized and brand new!

4. Hair Treatment

Let’s be honest: split ends are the worst. Luckily, you can hydrate your hair by using coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner! After you wash your hair, put the heated coconut oil in your hair from root to tips, making sure to give extra attention to those pesky ends. You can even leave it in overnight for a deep treatment! Bonus: Kim Kardashian totally stands by this healthy hair hack.

5. Moisturizer

This is pretty obvious, but coconut oil is definitely one of the best moisturizers out there. Since it is rich with fatty acids and absorbs quickly, it makes your skin really glow! It can even work as a great face primer before applying makeup. The nutrients will have you looking smooth, young, and wrinkle free!

#SpoonTip: If you have problems with under eye bags, specifically, you can even use coconut oil as a DIY under-eye cream!

You can basically use coconut oil for anything, and it will always be beneficial. So, don’t be afraid to head to your local grocery store and pick yourself up a jar!
