April 20th has been an illicit celebration since the 1970s. According to one theory, the 4/20 tradition began in Marin County CA, where five San Rafael High School Students would meet at 4:20 pm daily to smoke marijuana under their school’s statue of Louis Pasteur.
Today, 4/20 is celebrated by both smokers and non-smokers, so whether you are looking to light up a joint or light up a grill, you can still chow down all day with these fire munchies.
Break Your Fast
Start the day off right with a wake ‘n bake – as in, wake ‘n bake some breakfast and utilize your induced high efficiency to make some binge-worthy breakfast meals like this tater tot breakfast pizza or breakfast pancake sundae.
#SpoonTip: When you are still hungry 20 minutes later, put your leftover breakfast (or for that matter anything in your fridge) in a waffle iron to continue the blaze.
Empty the Fridge
Make Shaggy and Scooby proud with an improvised lunch time man-wich comprised of everything but the kitchen sink, artfully layered between two pieces of bread. If you need inspiration, use these savory sandwich recipes as a jumping off point.
Get Outside
It isn’t 4/20 without a little time in the outdoors. Take the afternoon off to see the sights and catch some rays. Whether in your backyard or trekking in Yosemite, don’t let the growlies catch you off-guard and pack some homemade trail mix or a perky picnic.
Quench Your Thirst
The cure to any over-toke or cotton mouth is dope lemonade or brewed iced tea – guaranteed to quench your thirst all day and keep that existential philosophy rolling. Even if you don’t partake in a full-on 4/20 celebration, you can’t go wrong with a cool drink on a spring day.
Don’t Forget Dessert
A successful 4/20 cannot be complete without partaking in the baked good known as a Brownie. Whether this brownie is special or just plain slutty, complete your happy circle with these brownie recipes and spin-offs.
Empty the Freezer, Too
Let’s be honest, at this point in the day you are probably too bent to actually make anything. Time to break out those delivery apps, family size frozen meals, and pizza so you can sit back and watch Return of the Jedi.
Now the day is done, let the logy set in, and ask yourself – are you really full?
