When ordering a burger, you expect a giant, hot, juicy patty stacked with cheese, lettuce, and other toppings, sandwiched between a warm, golden bun, right? (I think I’m right; that’s what my non-vegan friends are telling me…). Well, what if you could get multiple burgers mini-fied, piled high, with a side of fries? Sly’s Sliders and Fries is your tiny burger fantasy when you’re looking to chow down.
Opened in 2014, Sly’s has become a major food hub for students, tourists, and locals alike. Matthew, the genius behind the grill, moved to Savannah from Alaska looking for a new career and life. He’s worked in the food industry since he was 15, and it had been his dream to open up his own place. That’s where Sly’s was created.
When you see Sly’s on the street, you may not suspect that it’s the place where your slider dreams come true. However, once you’re inside, you enter this new dimension. Halfway between a diner and a dive, the restaurant is complete with ’50s-style chairs, great artwork, and, of course, a retro video game.
Focussed on quality food at a good price that appeals to the growing college market, Sly’s took a different approach to the burger industry. Take your favorites, make them smaller, and have them all. Boy, oh boy, the city of Savannah fell in love, and love spreads everywhere. Sly’s has been recognized by the NYTimes for their Banh U, Banh Mi slider, which features Sambal Tempura Shrimp, Pickled Daikon and Carrots, Cucumber and Cilantro Mayo.
The best part about Sly’s for a college student is that not only that the food absolutely delicious (if you need verification, leave a comment, I’ve got dozens of Sly’s lovers lined up), but it’s affordable! Good food for a good price?! A typical tagline, but Sly’s really performs. A slider is $3.50, and a slider dog is $3.00. So you can get three delicious mini burgers for about $10. Get hyped. This chow down is perfect for students on a budget.
According to Matthew, the customer favorites include the Boardwalk, Lil’ Sandy, and the Pain Don’t Hurt. However, Sly’s makes it easy to make your little burger fantasy a reality with a side of fries.
The Spoon-SCAD team cannot thank Matthew and the Sly’s team enough for letting us share their story and chow down on their food. Check them out and tell them that Spoon sent you!
