Every coffee addict knows the struggle of finding the perfect coffee shop. So, I created a guide to the best coffee shops in San Francisco. This guide will give you a little explanation of what each shop has in terms of coffee, food, and overall aesthetic.
Andytown Coffee Roasters
Andytown is a hip little coffee shop located on the corner of Lawton and 43rd in the Sunset and opening soon on Taraval. Not only is Andytown aesthetically pleasing on the outside, but also on the inside. People are constantly seen taking pictures of their food and drinks with the fresh flowers provided by Peter Cochrane, a local florist.
Andytown is most famous for their snowy plover: Pellegrino over ice, two shots of Andytown’s delicious home-roasted espresso, a small amount of brown-sugar-based syrup, and a dollop of their homemade whipped cream.
Andytown also bakes pastries every day. From soda bread to corn muffins and scones, they have it all. However, be sure to get there early because their soda bread sells out fast!
Blue Bottle Coffee
Blue Bottle Coffee is a San Francisco classic. With 11 shops in the Bay Area, and others in Los Angeles, New York, and even Tokyo, you’re bound to find a location near you.
Although Blue Bottle has several locations, my favorite has to be the one on University Avenue in Palo Alto. The store is one of the biggest coffee shops I’ve seen. This shop is partnered with HanaHaus, a company that rents out spaces for companies to work outside of the office, making them a particularly good place to work.
Most importantly, Blue Bottle serves up some of the best coffee and eats in the Bay Area. Although their menu varies from shop to shop, you’ll be sure to find something you like.
Cafe Réveille
Cafe Réveille is a very hip and adorable cafe located in the Mission Bay district near AT&T Park. With it’s signature pink tables, it’s always a good place to snap a food pic.
Besides serving the best green tea and matcha lattes, Cafe Réveille also serves breakfast, weekend brunch, and lunch. Whether you’re in the mood for pancakes or a burger, they serve it all and it’s delicious.
Home Cafe
Home Cafe, located on Noriega, is one of the newest and trendiest coffee shops in San Francisco. It is a great place to work and you’ll often see people on their laptops.
Put on the map by their birthday cake latte, Home offers unique flavors like Nutella, red velvet, and my personal favorite coconut vanilla. Along with their amazing coffee, Home also bakes incredible pastries and toasts daily.
Ritual Coffee Roasters
Ritual Coffee Roasters is a really hip chain of coffee shops. Although it has 5 different locations in the Bay Area, the one on Jerrold is my favorite. Connected to the Flora Grubb Gardens, it’s a great place to snap pictures with a friend.
Ritual’s menu varies from location to location. The Jerrold location is famous for their cherry bomb which consists of cold brew concentrate, maraschino cherry, and fever tree tonic water. An added bonus is Ritual’s lattes are some of the cheapest I’ve seen in the city!
The Mill
The Mill, located on Divisadero Street, is a very trendy and popular coffee shop in San Francisco. It has a very laid back vibe, making it a really good place to meet up with friends or get some work done.
Most importantly, The Mill serves Four Barrel Coffee and bakes 350 loaves of their infamous Josey Baker Bread daily. But if you’re not in the mood for coffee or toast, come back every night (except Tuesdays) for some killer pizza and salad!
The Trouble Coffee & Coconut Club
Trouble Coffee company is a very hipster chain of coffee shops with locations in the Outer Sunset, Bay View-Hunter’s Point, and West Oakland.
Trouble serves, in my opinion, some of the strongest coffee in the Bay Area. From drip coffee to their famous “girlfriend drink”- lavender and earl grey tea with steamed milk, vanilla, and honey-they never disappoint. Besides their great coffee, they also bake small pastries and serve the same Josey Baker toast as The Mill.
So next time you’re in the Bay Area and in need of a coffee shop, remember to check out my guide to the best coffee shops in San Francisco!
