I Subscribed to SnackCrate for 3 Months and Here’s What I Got

After hours of my college career spent aimlessly watching make up tutorials, cute animal videos, and countless food challenges, Youtube led me to the infamous SnackCrate.

SnackCrate subscriptions come in three different tiers. Subscribers can choose from the mini box, original, or premium crate. The mini box is $14 and a half pound crate, the original is $26 and a one pound crate, and the premium is $49 and a three pound crate. I went with the most popular option, the original crate. Here’s what was mailed right to my door: three different “snacking adventures” that I was super psyched to dig into.

SnackCrate Box 1: South Korea

I was excited to get South Korea as my first box. I’m a huge fan of Korean food, so I knew that I’d receive some pretty tasty snacks. My top 3 favorites were Gosomi, Secom Dalcom, and Coque De’Asse.

The best way I can describe Gosmi is a mix between a wheat thin and a sugar cookie; it’s weird, but good, I promise!

Secom Dalcom are sour fruit chews, and anyone that really knows me knows I love sour candy. The flavor I got was lemonade and they were a more tart fruit chew.

Last but not least, Coque De’Asse. It sounds better than me trying to pronounce it! It’s basically a short bread cookie. The box included a coffee and cream flavor, but I personally liked the coffee flavor better. 

SnackCrate Box 2: Philippines

It was a pleasant surprise to receive a box of familiar snacks. I am Filipino, and I grew up with most of these snacks, but there were some that I had not tried before. From this box my personal favorites were Ding Dongs, the filled Skyflakes, and the Ube Pillows.

Ding Dongs are not like the commonly known Hostess products. In the Philippines, it’s commonly known as mixed nuts consisting of cracker nuts, crunchy beans, peanuts, cornick (corn nuts), and tasty green peas.

Anyone who grew up in a traditional Filipino household knows about Skyflakes, but I’ve never had the filled ones. It was a total game changer. Both the chocolate and the condensed milk flavors were equally delicious.

Ube-filled crackers are #trending right now, but newsflash: these have been a thing for as long as I can remember. The contrasting textures of the crunchiness with the creamy filling is pleasant, I highly recommend tracking down these treats for yourself!

SnackCrate Box 3: Germany

This was, by far, my favorite box out of the three because of the variety and my unfamiliarity with the products. My top 3 favorites were Pommes Ketchup, Marmor Snack, and Knappers. I would highly recommend adding these to a list of your must-try German foods!

Pommes Ketchup are exactly what it sounds like: ketchup-flavored chips. They look like veggie straws with an orange color and a faint smell of ketchup. I liked the initial taste of the tomato because it’s subtle but not over-powering.

Knappers are crispy wafers with milk chocolate in the middle with hints of hazelnut. It has an airy component to it, and has the perfect balance of creamy chocolate to hazelnut ratio.

Marmor snacks are chocolate marble cake. I was pleasantly surprised by how soft and moist it was for a prepackaged snack. I would say this is quite close to perfection and would buy this chocolatey pound cake. 

If you’re looking for a creative way to try new foods I highly suggest subscribing for a month or two. It can get pricey when it adds up, but perhaps it’s something you can ask for as a gift! Who doesn’t like receiving something in the mail nowadays? Go ahead and treat yourself, subscribe to SnackCrate!
