Do you have trouble studying at campus centers and love hot beverages? Hidden Grounds is your new study spot. This under-advertised coffee shop, located on Easton Ave, is truly a hidden treasure.
Finding this coffee shop can be tricky, because it is below ground (you know… hidden). The only thing that’s visible is a black awning that reads “Hidden Grounds” in a funky, white font. When you descend the steps, you’ll find inviting sage green walls, rustic dark wooden tables, hanging glass terrariums along with jars containing vintage wire bulbs, subtle coffee notes in the air, and relaxing jazz music.

Looking around, you will see people chatting over coffee, working on laptops, reading large textbooks, and friendly employees serving hot beverages. Hidden Grounds feels welcoming and calming, which is perfect when you are trying to study.
The atmosphere also matches their amazing coffee selection. My friend ordered the Ethiopia, a light roasted blend with notes of basil, while I changed my mind and went with their Ginger Peach Tea.
My friend said her coffee was delicious and smooth, while my tea warmed my chilled bones. I was also able to steep my tea a second time for free since they let me have another cup of hot water.

Not only is their tea and coffee selection huge, Hidden Grounds also uses the perfect method for brewing coffee: the pour over. The pour over method uses a coffee filter, ceramic cone, ground coffee, long spouted kettle and hot water.
The outcome is a fresh cup of joe that does not taste burnt. Instead, it is smooth, slightly bitter, and gives you enough energy to get any amount of work done.

If coffee is not your drink of choice, there’s no need to worry. Along with their tea varieties, their menu also includes freshly squeezed juices (to clear up that hangover), hand crafted sandwiches, homemade cream cheese, and scrumptious bakery goods delivered daily from Brooklyn, NY.

For people with gluten allergies, this coffee shop also has gluten free breads delivered once a week. They also sell vegan ,gluten free cookies. Even though I am neither gluten free nor vegan, I was tempted to splurge on the vegan double dark chocolate cookie on display. It definitely seemed like a cookie that would melt in your mouth.
Come bring your homework, computers (free Wi-Fi), pleasure reading, or just a friend to chat and hang out with. Also, help support a local coffee shop while you enjoy their friendly service. You will definitely be hooked when you open their door.
