Think back to first year when you would trek 10 blocks to some random kegger with your new res friends just to find the party so packed that you couldn’t even get in while the keg of cheap beer was already dry. Then you switched to bars and clubs in the hub, nearly freezing to death in line just to buy overpriced drinks that were 95% ice.
Good news: Queen’s has its own bar that’s open every night of the week, is full of Queen’s students, and has a large assortment of sangria. So put that $10 kegger cover to better use and split a pitcher of sangria with a friend at The Queen’s Pub (QP for short).
If you’re already an avid QP sangria junkie, prepare to discover what your go-to sangria type says about you:
Bachelor Sangria: The Dreamer
I’ve noticed that the most desired sangria at QP is the bachelor sangria as it’s only available on QP’s Bachelor Mondays. Rumour has it you can get a pitcher of this beautiful, yellow sangria on other nights of the week if you have the right connections, but you didn’t hear it from me.
If this is your sangria of choice, you’re a die-hard romantic who may have been disappointed in love (and sangria availability) quite a few times. Don’t feel defeated, though. You’re exciting, enjoy new things, and may be prone to tears. All in all, you’re the kind of person that won’t give up until you find what you’re looking for.
Tropical Sangria: The Innocent One
When bachelor sangria’s not an option, the crowd favourite always seems to be the tropical sangria. If you’ve had sangria at QP before, and aren’t sure which one you had, chances are it was this one.
So you order the tropical sangria time and time again? It’s fair to say you either love the taste of this sangria, or you’re a people-pleaser. You like to include others and make new friends. But don’t get too comfortable or you may miss out on new and exciting opportunities (and flavours).
Classic QP Sangria: The Timeless Beauty
Classic QP sangria, made with white wine, is similar to the tropical sangria, except there are fewer fruit juices in the classic version. If one of your parents went to Queen’s, this is probably the same sangria that they got drunk on with their friends.
If your sangria is classic, so are you. You embody the Queen’s spirit and believe in keeping tradition alive. In the same way that you still like to dress in tricolour, you and your sangria will never go out of style.
Classic Rosé Sangria: The Oddball
Another QP staple is the classic rosé sangria. This sangria is (obviously) made with rosé wine and only a touch of fruit juice for a subtle taste. Rosé wine also turns the drink into a beautiful soft pink colour.
If you drink your pink sangria with pride, you are classy and confident and are, therefore, an inspiration to us all. Your old-fashioned style may get a few giggles or stares, but when your friends let you have the pitcher to yourself, you’ll be sure to get the last laugh.
Red Wine Sangria: The One That’s Too Cool for School
If you’re a big fan of red wine or want a bolder flavour, you can always ask to add red wine into your sangria pitcher. This substitution can be used in either the classic QP or tropical sangrias.
If you’re a red wine lover, you don’t follow anyone else’s rules. You’re a trendsetter. You spice things up, turn them upside down and make the old new once again.
