Why You Need to Go to the Quesada in Kingston

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Queen's U chapter.

As a student, you will more often than not be craving a solid burrito.

Just this year, our favorite limestone city got a major face lift in the form of the much loved taco and burrito chain, “Quesada,” right in the downtown Kingston.

The establishment is a chipper, red color with smiling staff and a satisfying view of the taco creation process. For the less experienced burrito customer, fear not. The staff are exceedingly friendly, offering up recommendations and making pleasant small talk. All Kingston eateries seem to have fantastic service, from taco places to Persian restaurants.

We tried ordering a variety of options, including two meaty burritos, a vegetarian burrito, a burrito bowl, a hard taco, tortilla chips with a side of guac, and even a fancy soda that was being promoted separately.

Long story short, everything was really good. The food was also, true to Quesada form, a major bang for your buck, with the burritos literally overflowing with flavours. Factor in the Taco Tuesday promotion and you’ve got yourself a ridiculously cheap and satisfying meal.

I ordered a hard taco since I wasn’t feeling particularly hungry. At least, that was my thought process until I realized they stick your taco in a bowl, and after stuffing your poor, little taco past maximum capacity, proceed to fill up all the blank spaces around the taco with lettuce.

Just like many grandmothers, Quesada wants you to eat way more than you ever intended to. And of course you oblige. After all, “calories don’t exist according to your grandmother.”

The burrito bowl is a great option if you’re looking to cut down on carbs but have FOMO, and don’t want to skip out on a taco date with friends. Burrito bowls are essentially next level salads, so fill up your bowl with all your favorite toppings and dig in. Or you could try making your own.

Burrito bowls are also not the sexiest in terms of looks, but remember what we learned in kindergarten: don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Eat before you judge.

Perhaps my only gripe is that the soda costs as much as my taco. However, the fizzy pineapple flavor was pleasant and the bottle was cute. But if you’re a student counting your pennies, maybe skip the pretty drink and keep your eye on the prize.

If you’re wondering why the guac hasn’t made an appearance in this post, it’s because guac is basically green mush, and that just isn’t pretty, no matter the angle. However, it’s worth noting that the guac here isn’t four dollars, and is pretty great slathered all over your burrito, so win win.

In conclusion, students rejoice. On those days that you almost burn down your house because you honestly just can’t cook, walk over to Quesada’s and hide your tears in a burrito.
