Best Bars for Queen’s Students to Celebrate St. Patty’s in Kingston

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Queen's U chapter.

Although most of us are probably going to spend the day partying on Aberdeen, there are also some great bars to head to during the day when you just want to sit down with friends.

If standing in the street isn’t really your idea of fun, check out one of these places to hear some live tunes, drink some cold beer, and devour some Irish eats.

1. Tír Nan Óg

If you’re looking for an authentically Irish St. Patty’s, this is the place to go. They’ll be featuring live bands all day, including Irish Disorders, Celtic B, Logan Brown, Shamus Pugg & The All-Night Rentals, and Celtic Kitchen Party. Three bars will be open to serve guests, and Lily the Fairy will be on-site doing face painting. They’ll be charging $5 at the door, and proceeds will be going to the Irish Folk Club of Kingston.

2. The Toucan

When you walk in, The Toucan feels like your classic Irish pub. Walking further back into the space, it feels more like a cool underground vault. The space is narrow and dark with a happening bar and a small, integrated stage. On St. Patty’s, The Toucan will be hosting live music by the Celtic band Dublin Down.

3. The Brass Pub

The Brass is a great place to go later in the night. As always, they’ll be serving beer until the last call, but they’ll also be serving St. Patty’s-themed food. This year, offerings include Guinness coffee short rib poutine and a grab-and-go corned beef sandwich. You might even find some live music, too.

4. The Brooklyn

They won’t be serving green beer, but they will be offering their Brooklyn mug deal on both Friday and Saturday. Get $5 refills by buying or bringing a Brooklyn mug. Doors will open at 7:00 PM for yet another fun, chill night in downtown Kingston.

5. The Queen’s Pub

You probably know what to expect when you go to QP, but this year for St. Patty’s they’ll be serving green beer and sangria. Stop by this essential campus location for a hot tray of nachos and a good ‘ole green drink, because after all, “Beer is Ale You Need.”

There are plenty of bars and pubs in Kingston, but these are some of my top choices as I can guarantee there will be big St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Be safe, have fun. and stay hydrated.
