This Tacoma Taco Truck is Good Enough to Make You Move Here

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Puget Sound chapter.

As a Californian, I was worried that when I came to college in Tacoma, WA that I wouldn’t have much of my beloved Mexican food cuisine. Fortunately, I was proved wrong when I was introduced to Rico’s Tacos by a friend. Now I take weekly (or more accurately bi-weekly) trips to the small taco truck located just under 3 miles from University of Puget Sound’s campus.

In order to take photos for this article, I asked a friend to come along so I would have some variety in images. One friend turned into two, which turned into a Subaru packed with college kids all stoked to get their taco fix.

I could tell you about how good everything I’ve ever consumed there is, but I think these photos will suffice.

They were out of carnitas (pork) by the time we got there, so I decided to sample their other offerings: one chicken, one spicy pork, and one carne asada (beef) taco. As someone who usually stays away from things entitled “spicy,” it may have even been my favorite of the trio. It was packed full of flavor and was pleasantly not omg-give-me-water-right-now spicy at all.

Tacos might be the star of the show, but they offer delicious tortas, burritos, chimichangas, and quesadillas.

Just look at that chicken and cheesy goodness asking to be devoured.

Their burritos (this one is carne asada) has the perfect ratio of beans to meat to rice to all other ingredients.

Now that we’re both sufficiently hungry, it’s important to know that Rico’s is open from 9AM – 9PM daily – plenty of hours to chow down.

There isn’t much ambiance, as it is a taco truck, but they’ve got a bench right next to the truck as well as a covered area to sit and enjoy your food free from the Tacoma rain. They even have a TV in the covered area to catch up on games shows or sports event.

10/10 would recommend Rico’s Tacos to a friend.

#SpoonTip: If you go on your birthday and present a valid ID, they’ll give you 50% discount.
