Get a Taste of SoCal Culture at Komodo

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Pepperdine chapter.

Ever feel like you can’t decide between your Mexican or Asian food cravings? Well, say goodbye to indecisiveness and hello to Komodo!

Located in Venice and East LA, Komodo’s story began with just a single food truck serving customers with the only the freshest ingredients and most adventurous flavors of Mexico and South-East Asia. Thanks to the culinary artistry of Chef Erwin Tjahyadi, Komodo quickly gathered a huge LA fan base.

So what are the highlights of Komodo?

First off, the tacos. Komodo’s iconic mini dishes are incredibly creative, combining ingredients such as deconstructed cheeseburgers, banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), or even Singaporean shrimp. Some of the most popular picks includes the Komodo 2.0, MP3, and Earlybird. With the miniature nature of these tacos, Komodo’s menu is set up so you can order them as sets of 4 or in combination with bigger plates, giving you a seriously great bang for your buck.

If you’re all about that spicy life, definitely remember to order the Kimchi Nachos. This familiar dish takes a unique twist with piping hot kimchi (a staple Korean cabbage dish) topped with bacon, chicken, green onions, sour cream, mozzarella & cheddar cheese. The final touch? A great helping of glorious sriracha aioli.

If you aren’t salivating with hunger yet, you will be after hearing about the Parmesan Fries. These thinly cut fries are covered in truffle (an extremely expensive ingredient) which adds a unique aroma and cheesy taste to your classic American dish.

The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is bright and lively, and most importantly, the prices are reasonable (yes, even for college kids.) Komodo isn’t just a restaurant for health conscious food adventurers, but an experience that represents the cultural diversity of California.
