You haven’t lived in Oregon and properly visited the coast until you have eaten at one of Mo’s Seafood Restaurants, or so I was told by my Oregonian friends. Located in Newport, Otter Rock, Lincoln City, Tolovana Park and Florence, Oregon, Mo’s is a seafood restaurant that should never be passed up.
Not to get all historical on you, but Mo’s is an Oregon institution. Opened in 1942 by Mohava “Mo” Marie Nieme in the town of Newport, Mo’s has served many dignitaries and celebrities through out the years. Diners include Paul Newman, Henry Fonda and Senator Robert Kennedy.
Don’t let the ten to twenty minute wait to be seated scare you away. Every item on the menu is well worth the wait.
The fish and chips are fried to a golden perfection and flaky fresh.
Creamy, yet salty with the perfect balance of potatoes and clams, the clam chowder is incredible. When I return to the coast, I will one hundred percent be going back and ordering a bread bowl filled with chowder.
The popularity of the chowder has even lead to Mo taking her clam chowder base, freezing it and selling it to grocery stores. It has expanded to being sold online and shipped anywhere in the United Sates. No matter where you are in the US, you will always be able to satisfy your Mo’s chowder cravings and reminisce about your Oregon adventures.
Soup and a sandwich is the perfect meal. Served with a cup of the famous clam chowder, quiet that grumbling stomach with a cod sandwich or bay shrimp salad sandwich.
You won’t regret ordering either of them.
If you somehow have room for dessert, don’t hesitate to order some. The marionberry cobbler is incredibly fresh and will remind you of your childhood summers visiting your grandparents.
If done right, eating at Mo’s will leave you full, happy and satisfied. Walking out you will think, ” man, it hurts so good, we’ll meet again.”
