If binging on desserts doesn’t seem socially acceptable, think again. On Tuesday, November 17th, a line wrapped around 15th street to enter the Delta Delta Delta house at the University of Oregon with the promise of unlimited delicacies. The event held was none other than Delta Desserts, where for $6, or $8 if you snagged a VIP pass to cut straight to the front, you could have as many cupcakes, cookies, cotton candy, pizookies or cake pops as you could consume. And as hundreds could vouch, there was little left uneaten.
Not to exclude anyone from the sugary nirvana, there were plenty of gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free options too.
Just as sprinkles and starbursts adorned the various tables, so too did the various characters from Pixar’s Up, which was this years theme for Delta Desserts.
Not to be left out of the fun either, Carl came along for the adventure.
Russell had his own campfire while Doug had plenty of treats (but no squirrels) to choose from. This year Delta Delta Delta sorority chose the tagline for their philanthropy as, “The cure is out there,” and paired it with this movie’s adventurous theme. The proceeds from this event went toward helping kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. See, eating a cookie can save a life?
With a DJ rocking the house and a photo booth to capture all the sweet memories, there was little room left to fit all the dessert. Even with the make-your-own milkshake station and the cotton candy machine, the real stars of the show were the 480 fresh baked Pizookies, graciously donated by BJ’s Brewhouse.
Flavors ranged from white chocolate macadamia nut, chocolate chunk and triple chocolate. Per request (or necessity), creamy vanilla ice cream would be scooped on top.
If you missed it this year, don’t fret, Tri Delta will host another dessert night next fall. That gives you just enough time to perfect your strategy to maximize pie and pizookie consumption.
