For many of us One Direction fans, hearts were shattered when Niall Horan released his first solo single. Reality finally hit that One Direction was really over. This is reason number one to eat your feelings. The song itself is reason number two to eat your feelings. Even if you weren’t a huge fan of 1D, it’s still highly likely that you understand the feelings that come along with pining for the one that got away. “This Town” hits me right in the feels every time. Here are five foodie steps that will make your journey through “This Town” much more bearable.
Step One: Eat the donuts
The Huffington Post says that the first stage of a breakup (One Direction’s or your own) is denial. That’s even what the first line of Niall’s new song is about: “Waking up to kiss you and nobody’s there.” Trust me, donuts help with denial. You can find the recipe to make your own donuts here.
Step Two: Eat the cake
Last night, I was listening to “This Town” and googling pictures of Harry Styles on his new movie set, and once again the sadness set in. This was the kind of emotional overload that only a good cake could fix. A strawberry, chocolate cake to be exact.
Step Three: Eat the fried chicken
For this one, there is no magic recipe that I am going to recommend. If you’re like me, you like your food best when someone else makes it for you anyway. This is especially true when I’m trying to eat my feelings. So instead, I’m going to recommend Zaxby’s, Chick-fil-A, and any local fried chicken places that will help put your heart back together again.
Step Four: Eat the mac and cheese
“Over and over the only truth, everything comes back to you,” is the lyric that I sing to my mac and cheese on the regular. This comfort food and gotten me though so many things, and Niall Horan releasing his new single will be no exception. Plus, it only takes 3.5 minutes in the microwave.
Step Five: Eat the ice cream
By now we’re hopefully getting closer to finally accepting that Niall’s new song brings back the feels about the one that got away. The one that we would still dance with even if the whole world was watching. Hopefully, this is the last time we will listen to “Take Me Home” and wonder where we all went wrong. What better food to pair with this amazing moment of closure? The classic heartbreak food: ice cream. Even though Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam, and Zayn are no longer together, we can count on Ben and Jerry to stay together forever.
